As a player from Istanbul I can tell they designed the city very well. Some details they implemented are known only by very few people. Like where they set marketplaces back then. They really studied A+ before designing the city. Though, why is there no Azans? The occasional Azan from afar would reflect the unique athmosphere much better.

@LeoOfThessaloniki I believe the Byzantine military was in disarray because the empire was sacked by the Catholic crusaders. Their military never fully recovered and thus were susceptible to attacks.

So I guess the Empire was more then susceptible to attacks. But when Constantine Palaiologos XI took control of the city on its last four years he was able to reconstruct a part of the economy of what it was at the time the Byzantine Empire.

Lastly Christians didn't fear the Turks because they were Muslim, they feared them for their power.

That is kind of confusing... I thought that Byzantines at the time were actually called Romans then I always thought that the plain people feared the Turks because they were Muslims while they were Christians. Also I had the impression that the Byzantine empire was indeed in a really bad state when the Ottomans captured it but Constantinople was a rich and beautiful town even in the last day before Mehmed the 2nd captured it. I don't want to troll. If I am wrong please correct me.

@geistlingster That is true. I just read in Wikipedia that the Byzantine Empire was devastated by a 6 year civil war right after the 4rth Crusade. So I guess the Empire was more then susceptible to attacks. But when Constantine Palaiologos XI took control of the city on its last four years he was able to reconstruct a part of the economy of what it was at the time the Byzantine Empire.

@LeoOfThessaloniki The Byzantines were Romans (predominately Greek, they still called themselves Romans.. as in the eastern half of the Roman Empire). Yes, plain people did fear the Muslims at the time because of the Turkish brutality upon conquering the city, etc etc. Though at the same time, the Turks needed the Greek populous for the city to survive. The Byzantine Empire was in a really bad state when the Ottomans captured it and the town wasn't the former beauty that it had been.

@LeoOfThessaloniki You're not completely wrong by the time Mehmed got Constantinople, it was pretty far gone. It only sustained a long time because of its great walls. When the Turks got cannons it was easy to conquer. Also Byzantines aren't called Romans but they called themselves Romans only in Constantinople. They mostly saw themselves as the successors of Rome. Lastly Christians didn't fear the Turks because they were Muslim, they feared them for their power.
