your father or whoever was there should go to jail for that. Not only is this wind too strong, but most of all fixing a glider with a rope on the ground is one of the most dangerous things to do. The glider tends to get into stall when you are at the highest point and then you just fall down from that height. If you fall from 20 m there is no chance to survive without broken back an/or neck.
A high percentage of people who try tethered paragliding go to the hospital or the morgue that day. No, they didn't think they would either..... no joke, hope you gave it up.
@arcanadana yeh i know my back was in bits after and did not enjoy being tossed around at those speeds never tried that again without a proper harness never tied myself to anything again .
I was kiting in high wind once and then a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup came up to me and witnessed to the dog about how if I did my taxes, the parakeet would go out to my truck and get the steering wheel.
as a reaction to all the negative reactions I would like to compliment you with the fact that you posted your mistakes, cought on video. Glider too big for you, harness without protection, stil you post so others can learn and not do what you did.
I know people on wheelchair because of this game. You may think that It s not a very big problem after all, as they still fly a paraglider. It is just about finding the right, special equipment.
My wish was to start paragliding, and since there isnt realy good conditions in the midvest USA, somebody inroduced me to hang gliding. After my first solo and learning prons and cons of both sports.I'm as my teacher says so hapy that i "live in the ugliest part" of this wonderful country!
a relative of mine is confined to a wheelchair after kite'ing at the beach and beeing sucked up and slamed down onto the rock pier, touch and go for awhile but he survived, and no, death is not better.
Fantastic skills kid! Be careful taking instruction from even parents. Approach it with intelligence and have a great time!
I'm very impressed with the way you handle the surprises.
Don't pay attention to the negativism of (some of) those giving advice . Arrogance (i.e stupidity) is more concerned with making a point than being helpful.
You use a rope to keep the glider on the ground. I guess you never thought about a dynamic surge which would have had very serious consequences. For killing one self, I would recomend pills. Strong wind, oversized glider, reverse setup and a harness without any back protection... perfect recipe for a wheelchair or, best case scenario, death.
Thank you! :) On the day the wind speed was 3m/s and the glider was for 95kg pilot I am 75 kg yes that's why We used the rope so I wouldn't get dragged in to the lake. But then the strong wind gust came. And that was the last time I used that harness or used a rope :)
This is the kind of thing that give paragliding a bad name. Highly irresponsible.

@megapwn333 Oh dear, tethering a glider is an absolute no no. You were lucky not to get a broken back.
At least ypu appear to be wearing a helmet, though that harness doesn't appear to have any back protection, not that it would have helped you much!

Tethering any one hooked to a paraglider is dumb. Lucky the paraglider didn't lock out and slam the kid head first into the ground.
