@TIMOTHYSAARINEN Are you kidding me? The Dead brought so much magic with them to each show. Nothing was ever the same. They changed so many people's lives. How could you say there overrated when there barley even on the radio. Trust me, if you really start listening to all of there stuff from 1965-1995 you will not say there boring or overrated at all.
@TNAisWWEv2, No offense to people who love the Grateful Dead, but I just don't get the appeal. I'll admit they were good musicians, I just find the music boring. But hey, that's just me. Ever heard Fleet Foxes? Can't imagine a Dead fan not liking them. Check out the official videos for "Grown Ocean", "Ragged Wood", "Mykonos", "Blue Ridge Mountains", the studio recordings, not live. Beautiful, amazing music. They are my favorite band.
This is thee best live version I think I've heard, Jerry's lead was dynamic, and nibble. Great to see how much fun they were having jaming in sweet harmony. They were all playing on each each other to a real high level.
That was about the most interaction I have seen between Garcia and Weir in years especially smiling like that. Great to see the fun they were having. Usually it was Brent that would always bring a smile to Jerry's face.
So just, well, FUN to see him out there with Wolf, Bobby actually looking like Bobby, Phil so spry and chipper, and the whole band playing with the smiling feel.
I had to move, really had too move.....!!!!! Damn heat.....well, all and all I cant complain, that heat took me to the warmest place on earth, I miss you all my family, soooooo much, feel like an outcast these days with out you all, def power in #s,.....thank God we have so many roads to roll too, we all new nothing that good could last for ever......
Jerry looks so lively and happy here. The interaction between Jerry and Bobby is reminiscent of the early 80's when he was still engaging the entire band from the left side of the stage. The solo is completely on point.
@wireguy73 I agree, my first show's were in the late 80's (Alpine Valley). It was tough watching Jerry deteriorate into the mid 90's. Those last show's in Chicago were tough. Missing chords, lyrics, and repeating versus.... Strung out....
@wichrau For the past few years there was a great live video of Bertha from Orchard Park NY which is near Buffalo. Not only one of the best Dead videos I could find, but definitely the best version of Bertha. It was filmed in the summer of 89 If I remember correctly, I just can't seem to find it now.
@024mdc Are you thinking of "Downhill From Here" possibly. I think that's what it's called anyway. From Alpine Valley '89. It is spectacular. I was there! Our summer trip to Alpine was a staple of our youth for many years. Miles of smiles!!
I was @ these shows the night before this on 9/29 they played Death Dont Have No Mercy! I miss those Amazing solo's that Jerry played so well. I loved all of them Doug Irwin Guitars. Wolf , Tiger, Rosebud and the Cripe Lightning Bolt..Jerry had his own unique signature sound no matter what guitar he played...there is a YT video Jerry w/ Los Lobos Jerry is playing a Les Paul goldtop on Suzy Q. PLEASE POST MORE OF THIS PRO QUAILTY DEAD FOOTAGE!!!!
