  • lisa, im a huge fan, i have a vintage make-up compact and was wondering if you could take a look at my pics of it and tell me what you think? thumbs up so lisa sees this please! xxxx

  • Loool @ putting 1920s (expired) makeup, I just couldnt stop laughing as soon as you said that

  • I wish those 50's powder/lipstick hybrid compacts were still made. Obviously, not so extravagant (for the lower price point), and I would even settle for hard plastic. I just really want one of those! They're the epitome of convenience!

(I first fell in love with this style of compact while watching Mad Men. I remember that Bobbi Barrett had this compact and whipped it out while she was in Peggy's apartment.)

Thank you Lisa for showing us your wonderful finds! :)

  • Oh My Gosh!! I want this book, I really want this book. Where did you bought it?? Please please pleaseeeee.

  • Wow vintage makeup seems to be made more thoughtfully than it is today! Fascinating!

  • Fascinating and beautifully presented, I have a great interest in vintage make and the packaging, this is the first thing I've seen that really addresses the subject in any depth. Thank you.

  • amazing collection! :)

  • Loved this video!! Fantastic ans soooooo interesting!! :)

  • I love this! I'm always curious about these hidden bits of women's history. The really commonplace day to day things that get lost because they werent considered important enough to record. Really gives you the flavor of the time.

  • my god that blusher! Where can I find a dupe for that colour

  • I remember my grandma telling me it was popular when she was a teenager for a boyfriend to give you a powder compact as a gift. This would have been in the mid 1940s for her. How sweet. :-)

That lil lipstick sample is the cutest thing I've ever seen! Ahhhh, just ADORABLE!

  • wonderful collection! love the art history and beauty lesson!!!

  • Lisa, have you ever considered taking these vintage colors and having them analyzed and reproduced? I see a lot in your collection that is just not available nowadays.

  • Hi Lisa, ive been wondering.. do you keep any make up products from these days to collect? and what items? I was thinking about the tom ford lipsticks, because the packaging is so beautifull.

  • Is that a Solange Azagury ring?

  • @fataanonima10 yes it is, I've had it for about 5 years and I love it x

  • Great series! Where did you manage to buy these?

  • @MakeupHairFashionful different places .... markets, vintage fairs and the internet mainly x

  • I really have enjoyed this series on vintage makeup and would love to see more! It's fascinating to see what woman thru the ages have worn and how things have changed. I wonder why most companies no longer produce such vibrant colors.

  • hey lisa :)

where did you get all this amazing make up? its really awesome :)

  • hi lisa ı hope you see this and answer my question... ın this video you shave a pearly case you open it up and a lipstick case comes out...at 6:35... since the first day I saw it ı just couldnt get it out of my head !! I am trying to search the sites but cant find something at least like it can you tll me where did you get it or where can I find vintage make up like that.. its really really important thank you soo much

  • @2300eva and please excuse my bad bad english ı tried to say show not shave soo sorry :(

  • @2300eva that one was made by Stratton and they often come up for sale .... I would keep searching ebay and the internet in general. I'm sure you will get one. Good luck! x

  • wouldnt the makeup be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay expired???? did u break out? I would just keep it as a collection item, its so beautiful :)

  • @MsKillerqueen5 of course but as its powder and has never been used before it had mainly just got dried out and hard. I dont do this kind of thing on a regular basis ; ) I keep all my vintage make-up in pristine condition and never touch it. No it didnt break me out. x

  • @lisaeldridgedotcom cool, yea you were brave for doing that, Thanks for the reply, I love your videos

  • I thought she said BEIBER makeup. Gosh. Scared the hell out of me!! XD

  • looooooove that headband its just amazingly gorgeous!

  • Holy....I want that blush!

  • Oh my god! how did you get this?

  • Lisa!! What did you do??! That Lipstick probably contains lead

  • I remember the Nina ricci packaging ... It is beautiful x

  • that's amazing. are you sure that's okay to put on your face? hahah it's very old and might contain some things that people dont use anymore

  • wonderful! simply wonderful! I absolutely am a history head, plus vintage makeup? And I incorporate vintage in my style, Fabulous!

  • really like this idea! it got a little rpetitive watchin makeup tutorials, but this was really interesting! thanks for posting!!

  • do you collect other vintage beauty items, like tools and skincare products?

  • Could you do a tutorial of 70's make up look?

  • Great interesting video....I wish my grandmother saved her makeup for me. I may save mine for my granddaughters!

  • You would look great as a Blond btw..

  • I want U to do My Makeup everyday LOL!!

  • where did you get all that make up? and, was it completely untested when you got it?

  • I just learnt something! :) i never knew Vintage make up existed

  • i made me so upset when you used them :(

  • I used to have one of Rina Ricci OMG I remember this package!

  • this is one of the best videos i've seen on makeup thank you so much...

  • I've seen a very similar product to the one you show at 6:45 on MadMen show ! It's in Season 2 episode 5 at around 35min. I love this show and the make up artist did an amazing job such as the accessorizes team which has looked for gorgeous vintage items !

  • I still have that Nina Ricci lipstick in the most gorgeous red which I purchased about 13 years ago. Sometimes I used it and it is still GOOD, no nasty smell or taste! I wish they bring it out again. Love this vid, thanks Lisa for sharing this with us!

  • i have that nina ricci one in hot pink!!! my mom bought it when it was launched :)))

  • i have such a huge passion for vintage.

thank you for this video :)

  • I bet if you mixed a bit of alcohol in with that lipstick samples you could revive it, I do it all the time with my makeup, I let it evaporate and it goes back to a really creamy rich texture.

  • I love anything vintage, this was delightful. Do you like Louise Brooks by any chance?

  • PLEASE make more videos about these!! can't wait to see your entire collection!

  • You're using 20's makeup. I can even start to tell how amazing and impressive that is! As a great admirer of aesthetics of that era, I must thank you for so many interesting information. I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel, Lisa :)

  • i love your passion about make up

  • Sigh. Oh. Petrouschka . . . such a sad story.

  • This is an amazing makeup collection! Makeup packaging back then was so beautiful <3

  • Do a WW2 era make-up showcase- smear a beetroot on your face because the U-boats sunk all our make-up shipments :(

  • Oh, wow, that makeup case about 3 minutes in...gorgeous!

  • I wonder if you have it wrong about that 30's era powder case that looks like lipstick. The applicator on the top makes no sense for powder application. It does make sense for cocaine or herion snorting. Press the top against a flat surface and voila. Proabition was probably in effect so people had to hide their drugs and alcohol; like in a lipstick case.

  • Nina Ricci's make-up case design is soooo unique. ^^

  • I had one from Nina richi I remember that box very well

  • I love the 80s one.

  • What a gorgeous (gorgeous!) headband! :D

  • These vintage videos of yours are amazing! I love to see your vintage makeup, it looks so gorgeous :)

  • you speak like nigella lawson! so eloquent and passionate :)

  • where do you buy this, i'm really into vintage makeup i can just never find it anywhere, would be a huge help if you could reply :)

  • Very interesting post. Thanks for sharing.

  • you have such adorable vintage make up collection.

  • I just turned 20 and have barely started really getting into makeup and found this very fascinating. This inspired me to buy make up and preserve it to share with my daughters and grandaughters :)

  • @ejmartinez313 Oh god no, do not do that! The oils in the product go rancid. :(

  • This is amazing!!!Thank you for sharing it with us!Btw...I love your top!

  • wow, such a blast from the past. I bought the pink and coral Nina Ricci compact in the 90's, and my Mum had a Stratton compact in a faux tortoise shell. I love vintage make up, what a treat to see this video Lisa! I get a real kick looking into an old compact mirror and think to myself about the past beauty that looked into the same mirror, almost magical really!!Thanks so much for sharing. Reminds of a recent book I read called Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella.

  • oooh i have some of the nina ricci blushes :D I feel so cool, im so interested in the vintage makeup!!

  • I love this series. Really interesting, really cool. : )

  • @lisaeldridgedotcom what was that powder compact you introduced around 6:40?

  • I'd soooo love if some company was re-launching these powder compacts from the 50s. OMG, how clever to have your lipstick in there too and it looks so pretty and really well made! I WANT!

  • Loved this video, thank you!

  • This is acc quite inteeresting

  • That is really fantastic Lisa I love the topic and specifically the vintage make up

  • Lovely video! I have blush compacts from Calvin Klein's first line in the late '70's---burgundy plastic elongated compacts with rounded ends. So sleek and contemporary, but feminine and chic. Your video evoked such nice memories; thank you.

  • Dear Lisa,

the small thing you said it´s for powder and looks like a lipstick, was made for black kohl powder for making a beauty spot. Greetings from my 89 years old Nanna =)

  • @MrsSeltsam It's good that you said that because she described it as something to put powder on, which, to me doesn't make any sense whatsoever. It would take someone more than 5 minutes to get a decent amount of powder with that thing.

  • @MrsSeltsam It did think it was a bit odd to put powder on the way she way saying :D

  • This is just AMAZING!! Thank you so much for your videos!! <3

  • This video was soo amazing!! =) I LOVE this!!

  • I love your British Accent..:)) greetings from Germany ^^

  • thumbs up for Art History lesson!

  • you are so knowledgeable in your career!

  • Lisa !!! I'm living my vintage moment right now, i just looooveeee vintage. And your video just made my whole vintage world perfect!!! Can't wait the vintage videos you're gonna upload :)

  • I do have that Nina Ricci palette! My dad gave one to my mom but she never really used it. :) I can`t throw it away because the packaging is so nice. :)

  • watching your videos wow!!! all i can say is thank you for making them, they really are educational talking about vintage makeup and the history of cosmetics really help me see why you love collecting vintage makeup and appreciate what women went truw back in the days to look sexy and free

  • I usually don't like history, but I think this video is sooo interesting, it makes me travel in time, through different make up eras, and I loved it!

  • Great video, just stop looking at the viewfinder on the side! extreeemely irritating, lol!

  • it's so beautiful I wanna cry!!

  • hi, could you reccommend some websites that sell these vintage pieces?am i right to i presume that you don't use these makeup items but have them for a pretty display collection? do you know of any swebsites that sell these type of vintage style makeup pieces that are actually wearble today?

  • This video has inspired me to start collecting vintage makeup! Thank you so much for this, Lisa! xx Lauren

  • This is very interesting, definitely something different, you have some great collectibles there. Thank you for showing them off for us.

  • my mom had that same Nina Ricci lipstick! and, if I am not wrong, she also had some face products (moisturizer, perhaps?). one of the cutest packaging ever, i totally adore it when I was a child and I dreamed to use these products, one day :)

i'm in love with this series of videos!

  • you truly got the passion for makeups. :) You've done researches and all. I really find your vintage videos informative. It's like we're getting a hint of history for every piece of makeup you own. keep it up!

  • Oh, that's really interesting! Lisa, YOU ARE GORGEOUS! Vintage and a history of make up are my best interests. Lisa, book you recommended in this video is the thing I will dream about. Can you advise more books? PLEASE...

  • beautiful video,amazing Lisa!!! *****

  • Just remembering those 90s things!! ... From old adds. Gosh. Great! ... That was packaging!!!! *totally overwhelmed here... sorry*

  • God, how amazing!!!! ... Gonna search through my mums drawers for her seventies stuff now. (..."What are you doing?" "Checking out your vintage makeup!") ...She'd hate that. ;)

  • I loooooooooooooove that lip ring!

  • lov it!!!! :)

  • where'd you get those makeup? :)

  • i love helena rubinstein makeup

  • brave girl trying that old lipstick :)

  • just fascinating, i found myself ebay searching for vintage make up and writing down the name of the book, need to watch the rest of your vids NOW!

  • thanks so much you have inspired me so much i never knew there was actual make up never used from like the 1920 which is amazing

  • Thank you for this! I love vintage and I love makeup, so this is perfect!!!

  • oh my gosh! i'm so excited abt these videos! :D i luv vintage makeup! and have always envied the old timey looks. this is awesome! luv even the showing of the old cosmetics! :] thank u!

  • i have seen the documentary 'war paint' ... love it!

  • Lisa, you are an amazing artist and make such interesting informative videos! I would like to ask you if there is any only places I can check for buying vintage makeup? Thank you beforehand.

  • Handsdown, you're my no1 FAVOURITE makeup artist!

  • wow,this is very interesting! you're great!

  • What a brilliant video, I love vintage makeup I still have my Mary Quant blushers from 1983 and would give my right arm for Miss Selfridge 'rent-a-cloud' eyeshadow. It was discontinued without notice and I was distraught about it and still miss it.

  • I cannot get over how interesting these last few vintage videos have been for me. I've learned a lot about a subject I honestly never thought I'd be interested in. :) And I've got to say-I LOVE that you took that chance and applied 80 year old makeup. I got a real kick out of that. I look forward to your future videos on vintage makeup. Thanks, Lisa. <3

  • I collect vintage compacts too! My favorite time period is the 20's! Oh and i am definetly going to read the book you metioned called "War Paint"!

  • i LOVE this. love it love it love it.

  • I loved this video, I love how you showed the history of makeup with your vintage pieces. But I was wondering is it ok to use make up that old, wouldn't it be expired? I thought you had to throw it out in a year or two. Or you can keep it, but just don't use it.

  • I love the way you speak about make up; it is quiet invigorating and also inspiring!

  • blusher doop lisa??

  • I'm sooo gonna read this book! I was immensely happy to find it in my library! Curious thing - both Helena Rubinstein and Barbara Hulanicki were born in Poland.

Lisa- you made me so fascinated by the subject of makeup, you can't even imagine :) Thank you for such inspiring videos!

  • This video is so great, I have a beautiful antique silver powder compact that I break out for special occasions and i really to collect more, so seing those fascinating ones from your collection is really interesting! Thanks for sharing with us :) xo

  • Amazing video and LOVE the headband. Where did you get it from? xx

  • Amazing..... I've been waiting a long time for someone to do a video like this!

  • OMG THANKS SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS VIDEO!! LOVE IT!! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!

  • Would makeup from that long ago have preservatives and things in it?

  • Flapper era <3 lovethh

  • Don't those makeups have expiration dates? I was just wondering..

  • i cant wait to see more- this is one of the most fascinating vintage series. It's also wonderful you have original compacts and samples- hope to see more :D

  • Oh my I LOVE this video! Really fascinating stuff.

  • should there be any concern for the health of your skin and face, since your using such old makeup?

your amazing, thanks for what u do!

  • @teawilli in other biba makeup vids she said there is she just primes and moisturizes her face and eyes first

  • @teawilli yeah, watch her "Biba Fever!!" - video !

  • @teawilli Not really. There isnt any bacteria that could still be alive and thriving on the cosmetics. Also, the only way make-up back then went back is when it dried out. There were no components that could 'mold'.

  • Hi Lisa, I wanted to see the raspberry on your lips lol! I remember the tubes of lipstick my grandmother used had a small clip on the side and you pushed the clip up and down to lower and raise the lipstick. My mother had a compact like the one you showed with the lipstick on the side and attached inside the compact. I loved to watch them put on their makeup when I was young. Grandma did use lots of bright "rouge". xoxo :) Carla

  • This is such a brilliant idea! Love it!

  • thank you Lisa. Ive been obsessed with Biba make up from the 60's and 70's since hearing stories of that era from my mum. Also 50's make up from my grandmother's era, I sat for hours watching her at her dressing table with beautiful gold Elizabeth Arden compacts etc that I treasure to this day. x I have often thought of trying to refil some items to be able to use them but they are too precious, I just gaze at them occasionally :)

  • Thank you so much for doing these....it's wonderful to see some the things from the past and where we came from makeup wise. Looking forward to some more. Take care, Sharon

  • Bieber makeup.... I thought he wasn't openly gay yet.

  • When you said 'BIBA makeup' it reminded me of my favourtie boy in the world JUSTIN BIEBER!!! :D x

  • What a fascinating video! I absolutely adore learning about the history of cosmetics and how women celebrated their femininity through such lovely, beautiful products! Fabulous! =)

  • Your collection is just adorable ! How did you find these treasure and how and where do you find them ? Oh and I do miss Nina Ricci, they had such a nice packaging.

  • wow! thank you for doing this! this is so interesting. I just find it so hard to find any information on the history of Make Up so it is just awesome of you to do those videos!

  • could you maybe do a video on your favourite makeup books?x

  • just...wow

  • So nice to see those beautiful make-up "artifacts". Here in Spain we hardly had any of these things, because we endured our Civil War from the 36 to the 39, and those were hard times where no Spanish girl (my grandmothers, for example) would wear any make-up, except for some lipstick and a little bit of powder. Still, my grandmother had some beautiful parfum atomizers and cream containers :) Love this video!

  • Loved this video i am soo glad you are doing this series for people to realise there is alot more to make-up than people think! x

  • Wow, this is amazing. I can really see your passion in here. This is opening another side of makeup I've never really seen. I'd love to see more of your items from collecting vintage makeup!

  • Lisa please be more careful when trying vintage makeup. Some might use dangerous/poisonous additives that now adays are banned.

  • 16 people want to show the world that by clicking "dislike", their lives suck. really bad. Lisa, you are an inspiration and a true icon, in my view. keep up the good work!

  • Amazing topic!

  • cooooooooool!

  • Wait, is that replica makeup of the 20s and 30s or actual makeup from said time period? If it's the real deal, shouldn't it be decayed and rotten by now? Am i the only one who is confuses? Lol

  • @fatimajaan88 of course not. powders don't have water in (obviously), so there's no room to grow any sort of bacterias etc. As for the lipsticks, if they haven't been used and were made in the right conditions (i.e. clean), they haven't "caught" anything, really.

  • @lisaeldridgedotcom I won't. lol :) xo

  • I absolutely adore this video. Thank you so much for sharing, this is what i truly love about makeup...!

  • Looking forwards to seeing more on this topic

  • Wonderful video!

  • What I adore about all of these makeup items is how they were really made to last -- nothing was disposable. Each item was so beautifully crafted, they're little works of art. I really wish more companies made such lovely things like these. I'd be willing to pay more for them, if I could then refill them!

  • LOL. " Bieber makeup. I'm lucky enough to have a huge collection of bieber makeup!" I thought, what else is next? After I looked at the comments I was like oh...

  • This is quite possibly, THE most interesting and inspiring make up video I have ever watched in my life. It's a one of a kind video. Thankyou so much :)

  • where did you get all this gorgeous vintage makeup?! :)
