  • Always like I didn't know the music until I listen to Dinu.

  • Compare to Tiegerman's white hot playing from a live radio broadcast, available on YT.

The sound is pretty awful. But the playing is something else. There is a more recent CD available where the sound is much improved.

  • Just like the fourth movement from beethoven's second symphony, I just can't help myself laughing when i hear the A theme.... seriously! marvolous!

  • @lean68 And Alfred Cortot ? And Samson François ?

  • only Horowitz also had the technique to play the beginning of this movement as clear as Lipati does. This is absolute perfection and control of sound. The piano and Lipatti was one, there is perfect harmony . He is not fighting the piano but the piano is part of him.

  • Quel délice lorsqu'on revient au thème principal, à 2:00, si virevoltant, frais, innocent.

  • haha...no one deserves to be shot for a bit of hyperbole. Superlatives drive me crazy too, though. There are SOOO many great musicians in this world, and to call anyone "the best who ever lived" is to insult legions of incredible talents. That said, Lipatti is absolutely superb and I wish he had lived longer and recorded more!

  • Of course, his playing is beautiful as always. . However, in the top register his tone is more brilliante, where other pianists might play soto voce.. Guess I'm saying what I like. lol

  • Sorry, I must disagree categorically. I know of at least one other. His name is Emil Gilels. His 1976( if I remember rightly) DG recording is just as beautifully sung. Of course, my meaning is not saying whose interpretation is "better" or much less "best" because that is almost always nonsense, I think. Please try listen to it. Since you seem to like Lipatti recording, I feel you will like Gilels too. Sorry for wrong English.

  • No one should be shot, wedger.

If you don't use superlatives referring to Lipatti, where else can you use them?

  • thank you theoshow2, thank you Lipatti, and of course, thank you Chopin!
