@zaza744 Again, I'm just afraid that the only thing that people will see about Shakespeare is this movie (no movie adaptaions of his works). I can't judge the movie's quality because I haven't seen it, but the fact that it feeds into the mentality that Shakespeare didn't actually write his plays (despite that there is substantial evidence that he did) just rubs me the wrong way. I'm all for a "what if" story as long as the audience knows that it is a "what if" story.

This movie did nothing to persuade me in its favor.

About half-way through, I was getting sick and tired of it all. The only arguement "Shakespeare is a fraud!" people have is that they don't think its possible for a man of his social rank to have written so many plays about court. In general, they do not feel writers can write about anything that is beyond their knowlege. I have one thing to say: STEPHEN CRANE.

Just because Shakespeare's parents were illiterate does not mean Will himself was.

This movie was brilliant, the best I’ve seen this year. For arguments sake, here’s the truth to the whole situation.

There is no evidence that Shakespeare did in fact write the play-wrights, just as there is no evidence Edward De Vere did the same. We all know history is written by the victor, and in this case with his name on the play-wrights, Shakespeare was the victor.

People, don't take everything in this movie seriously! It is just a movie and while there are some truths behind the idea for the movie, there are some modifications of facts that were made to improve the movie. Which I honestly didn't mind and thought it made the movie better, but some are offended by this and I don't think any offense should be taken. Overall I loved the movie and it very closely resembles King Lear (and it even pops up in the movie near the end).

I remember myself thinking "People were really THAT stupid?" while watching the movie, when I saw how the portrayal of Robert Cecil transformed an audience into a raging mob ready to kill both man and actor.

But after reading comments like "The movie is shit, an insult to Shakespeare" or "Shakespeare was a fraud!" I have to say that almost 500 years have passed and we are still the same simplistic morons uncapable of discerning fiction from reality.

It's a great film. But it's just that: a FILM.

@TylerDurden1901 Actually, you should read more about Shakespeare and who is behind this name..The story in the movie is absolutely true but still not proved..BUT there are so many facts which lead us to the conclusion that Edward de Vere was the real Shakespeare. There is a theory called "Oxfordian theory of Shakespeare authorship". So, it`s really an interesting dilemma. What`s the truth? Nobody knows ...maybe just for now. :)

I'm aware about the theory about de Vere's autorship but there are also theories about Francis Bacon, William Stanley and Christopher Marlowe. You're obviously aware about the facts behind the movie, but there are people that after seeing the movie become utterly convinced about Shakespeare being a fraud without having even read about him.
