He writes music and if it doesn't seem right puts it away and when the time is right put it where it is right. if that makes sense. he is such a musical genius that is inspired. I love Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber! Good SHOW!
I often wonder where and how he comes up with his tunes...jesus christ superstar's overture, judas' theme, phantom everything about it....where oh where???
Yes, MOTN was originally called Married Man written for a woman,(I heard from a reliable source it was before Sarah) and for a different musical but wasn't used. But the lyrics were totally different. Only the melody was used with new lyrics for the Phantom, which changed the whole mood and tone for this song, and Michael totally owned this signature piece with his beautiful moves and passion.
Yes MC had singing lessons with Ian Adams, the same teacher that Sarah Brightman had. Sarah heard him sing with her teacher and she convinced Andrew Lloyd Webber for him to play the Phantom.
@adelaxxx Yes he did ! he had vocal lessons from the same vocal instructor as Sarah Brightman at the time when they chose him to play Phantom. Sarah heard Michael sing at his lesson and that was how they decided to choose him. His voice teacher I believe was Ian Adam.
Very interesting video. Thanks for posting. I did see an interview of Michael Crawford many years ago and he said that he believed Music of the Night was originally written for a girl because of the high notes in the piece. Looks like his theory was correct!
Andrew DID change the lyrics for Sarah, and after the lyrics were changed, Michael DID have a lot to to do with developing how the song was performed, setting the mold for future Phantoms.
So we are both right.
I wonder if he is telling the whole truth about her using her dance training to work out the moves. That's not what the existing rehearsal video shows. He WAS ticked she didn't win awards for the show he wrote for her and Michael did.
I don't know when, but the interviewer is David Frost.
He says all the changes in "Music of the Night" etc. were Sarah! I've read (and seen rehearsal videos) that indicate Michael Crawford had a LOT to do with it.
Maybe Michael had to do with the changes done to "Music of the Night" per se, but what Andrew says here is that the changes that turned "Married Man" into "Music of the Night" had to do with Sarah and that he composed the song for and about her.
