  • reminds me of muse

  • Nice to see the SD set in action.

  • noticed U had the bassman 100 with master vol, the same as me, I know it has 4 6l6s, and it has two other tubes, and one on its own, what are they, are all 3 preamp tubes, or is one a rectifier ?, also if U have the master vol on 10 is your bassman brighter than it would be if U used the master vol at the same vol as the master open on 10 ? mine seems a lot more jangle when I don't use the master, is yours ?when using master it seems to impact the tone and make the amp a little duller , cheers

  • 0:29 'd tone was my favorite.

  • Death from above 1979... :p

  • try to put the fuzz on the bridge pup.

Works better to me, than you have bigger bottom en nicer fuzz ;)

  • D D D D D D D D D D D D

  • Haha without a head, you could be Scott Pilgrim!

  • you suck ass

  • Wat strings???

  • God, this is why I love bass.

  • not a guitar

  • what an almighty sound!

  • How to you like the avatar cabs? Specifically that combination - 2x12 + 2x10

  • IT"S SCOTT PILGRIM! But seriously dude, nice.

  • that sounds sooo sick xD i wnat it

  • with the distortion it sounds like its from a car clearance commercial

  • love your tone man distortion on the neck pickup sounds amazing

  • Wow, I'm loving the orange!

  • Sick bass tone. Wow

  • this has probably been asked, but i don't really feel like looking through all the comments.

okay, how do you run the rick in stereo? i'm thinking of getting one, but i don't understand how to run it in stereo.

  • @thevilageidiot817 there are to out put jacks on the bass. one is normal mono output in which both pickups go to one. there is a stereo out put jack, but to use it you need a stereo cable or a ric-o-sound kit. This way the bridge and neck pickups have their own out put. The sound quality is better overall.

  • i would cut off my legs for a rick

  • 0:27 eargasm, _O_

  • what a fat tone!!!!!!!!!!

    LOVIN IT!

  • IT SOUNDS LIKE MY 100 DOLLAR BASS BOUGHT ON MUSICSTORE....

  • @idri07 You only have a 100 dollar bass? Wow your cheap.

  • @ilaniol doesnt mean i have justa hundred dollar bass asshole

  • thats one big ass rig!

  • Do I spy Seymour Duncan pickups?

  • badass. what did you put in the eq? my friend likes scooping the mids, what did you do?

  • What song is that riff at 0:27 seconds from?

  • Fingerstyle is the way it should be done

  • @muderface2112 keep reading bass magazines or going to berklee hahaha what a fucking retard

  • Cool man, very 70s progish.

  • that effect is asking for you to play hysteria - MUSE haha

  • Nice tone mate. I try to make that happen with my peavey fury and my DIY fuzz xD. They're not bad though..

  • @MeTaLzHearT I've had so many pedals since this. The TZ-2 is long gone. I use a Chunk Systems Brown Dog as my main fuzz right now, plus lots of other pedals, too many to name really!

  • excellent tone, especially from 0:28 onwards, and a nice groove to your style

  • awesome tone from 0.28 onwards, nice groove to your playing too. very cool

  • awesome tone from 0.28 onwards, nice groove to your playing too. very cool

  • The bass The bass The bass

    Beautifal

  • Looks like the bass was modified and had a musicman type pickup for the bridge pickup?

  • No, that's the type of pickup they come with. He just has all the covers taken off of it. Look for a replacement one and you'll see exactly what it looks like.

  • what pedal was it? Sounded really good for bass distortion.

  • Guyatone fuzz pedal

  • OK. So you don't have Rick anymore but you still have Bassman. Would you be able to record a demo with Bass Guitar and Bassman only (no effects) and crank the amp up gradually? I'm wondering if Bassman is a good amp for a bass guitar. I want to buy one but there are almost no demos of Bass Guitar+70's Bassman on youtube. Please! It would be a great help. Pleeeease! :)

  • Actually the bassman was borrowed. Based on my impressions at the time it was underpowered for bass to be sure. It would give a bit of overdrive tone but a bit farty :)

    Good luck.

  • @Niraham I've got a few posts on you tube playing my 1974 bassman 100. A great amp.

  • @Niraham if you wate till im next in the studio i could probs do that

  • @projectno5 OK. i'll wate :) . just let me know when it'll be ready.

  • @Niraham The Bassman is a better guitar amp than a bassamp

  • @Niraham Hey buddy, I gig with a bassman 100 and they're plenty loud, particularily with the deep switch on. In my experience, they sound best through 12" speakers.

  • I really Like this vid man. Is there any way you might be able to write a tab for this bit?

  • For all the people still seeing this video, I don't own most of this gear anymore. Not the bass, definitely not the pedal. Not the cabs, though the amp I will keep until I die (and have it buried next to me).

Thanks for all the views and ratings!!

  • Hi... nice one.

Why did you get rid of that bass?

  • @megadan76

So when he goes.. you know where to find amp people lol.

Well, None of of the gear in your room is pretty much yours or not yours now.

    annnnnnnnnd i can tell.

I dont think a pick woulda helped your playing, that tee shirt or that busted ass room lol. good luck man.

  • Appologies to all those people who:

-can't tell fingerstyle from a pick or vice versa

-can't sit still long enough to sit through a 59 second video

-are offended by my choice to play live, improvised basslines rather than, god forbid, a song you actually know or can play or have heard a million times or reminds you of your ex-girlfriends

  • @megadan76 what is that thing you have below the borrowed fender bassman head?

  • @megadan76 NAAAACYYY!!!! WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME!!????

  • how'd you talk your parents into buying you all this shit, kid?

  • @Infalliblereason hahahaha I like you. You're funny. At least you have more of a sense of humour than all these people rambling about pics.

What was it that made you realize I was a 14 year old kid? Was it the beard? Or the shitty basement apartment, or just my freakishly tall stature?

  • i appreciate the compliment, Megadan76. flattery will get you everywhere.

  • Pick sucks, get on pizzicato

  • "our first bass player, who I refuse to call by name because he he doesn't deserve it and did nothing...he played without a pick, that kind of asshole. He never turned his treble knob up at all. He was really into Karp."

  • Wow you have all that equipment in your living room and your bass still sounds like buzzsaw trash. Ha.

  • That bass line!I was thinkin up drumchops to play with that!!hahaha good stuff!

  • dig!

  • amazing sound :D

  • you listen to brmc their bass is just like this.

  • brmcs tone is sick, you need a hollow body to really make it though.

  • What exactly do you mean by "tubes"? That sure as hell aint no tube-driven distortion you got going on.

  • Oh my no. I prefer a clean tube amp sound, myself. Both of these amps do that sound quite well.

  • A clean tube amp sound? With bass a clean amp is a clean amp.

  • beautiful instrument and nice sound man and i like the grooves too ;)

  • where u get you rickenbacker? ive been wanting one for along time

  • what pedal are you using for Fuzz?

  • @NoKDa guyatone tz-2

  • Thats awesome just like jack lawrence from the dead weather

  • @coreyv79 i love jack Jawrence man! he's one of my bass idols!

  • i had an orgasm with that sound men... *0* the distorsion is like WHOOOO i love it .... i wish have one of those u.u ....

  • WOW|!

  • I've got a 4003 Ric and the hum is too much for me. The Guy at the music store demo'd a Hum De-Bugger . This thing removes all of the noise and leaves the sound intact. for 118 bucks i think it's well worth it.

  • Could you do a demo of the Seymour Duncan pickups you have in your Rick?

  • Can you just leave the video part and delete the sound? Sorry

  • i like the distortion. :)

  • can anyone tell me if they would recommend a 2009 4003 or a late 70's 4001?

  • Probably the new bass... the 4001s have an odd-ball truss rod system that have probably been abused over the years.

  • which pick up's do you use? original rick? i want to buy pick ups with more low in it but i don't know wich are good.

  • I get a good sound from my 4003 and I have to say that I rarely use the neck pickup. Personally, I wouldn't change a thing on the bass at all. I would suggest you try valve (tube) amps as I've found the Rick sounds better through them. I use an EHX Bass Big Muff pedal through an old trace elliot Quatra Valve bass amp into 2 Peavy 4x10cabs. I turned the horn off on one of the cabs and had a moderate amount of horn on the other. Sounds rich and very full on the bridge pickup. Say No To Actives!!!

  • Wow, well i do not havo the money for all them things. I can't take them when i go to a gig, i do not play in a good band so. I think i just keep on playing my old Ibanez Roadstar 2, it sounds better and plays easier, i think i sell my rick, but i am not shure, im thinking of it for about a year. Hmm...

  • anyone want to buy a 1978 4001 autumnglo ric w/ case for 1700? shoot me a message

    i'm in southern california

  • why would you want to sell a ric!? Especially from 1978!

  • I already sold it. Way too trebly/middy for my tastes. If it wasnt for that I wouldn't of have sold it. The neck was incredible!

  • You probably could have fixed that. There's many things I would do for my bass before I would give up on it.

  • *-*

  • It seems a Man´o War bass sound...

  • hey might i ask if you know what specific pedals cliff burton uses?

I know its a morley wah. but not sure what kind, please message back, im trying to get a good setup, (cliff's) to cover some old skool metallica

  • Cliff used a 1970's Morley Power Wah Boost, the big chrome Morleys. While the current Morleys are great, the vintage Morleys are a whole other beast altogether, they suit the bass better as they retain low end and boost the hell out of the signal. They are the best wahs out there IMO, with the Fox wahs coming in a close 2nd.

Cliff also used a Big Muff, but I think he used whatever he could get his hands on when it came to distortion.

  • damn dude, any idea where i can get this stuff, and how much rickenbackers go for these day, i know a coule of thousands

  • I got my Morley off a collector of vintage stuff, but a good place to start would be eBay, they're always on there, just search Tel-Ray Morley Wah.

Ric's are not cheap, especially the one Cliff used which was a 4001. The MSRP of a new Ric is $2,159 but you can grab one used for $1,100 to $1,600. I HIGHLY suggest you try one out if you're serious about buying that sort of equipment, Ric's aren't made for everyone.

Also, very important if you're covering Cliff:

    Ric= Anesthesia.

    Aria=MoP.

  • he's dead

  • Guild Thunderbass... Yeah Baby! I own one and nlove it. Your's is the only other one I've seen.

  • They are pretty rare, I will hold onto this one forever!

  • you should do a cover of think for yourself by the beatles with that bass and distortion its a lot of fun to play

  • Playing BASS though a BASSMAN?? I've been looking all over for a video of this.

  • IT'S POWERED BY TUBES!!!!

  • tubes????

  • BIRDMANS CREST!

  • i play guitar but im totaly jealous at bass player because they have this awesome instrument. i think its one of the coolest instruments on the planet.

  • @henkiewessel same

  • o men oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • yew....

    sounds great..

  • is that a retro fitted bridge pick up?, 'cause i might buy a Rickenbacker soon (i told the bank i was buying a new car.....suckers! lol) and i was wondering wether that had affected the original stock sound too much.

  • No wonder why I here Distortion and Clean channel in Tool - Flood. Paul was using the Rics main usefulness

  • I wonder,

the thing over the treble pickup....

    mine 's lost

    I need a black one.

    where can i find that

    ????????

  • the pick-up cover thing? Check the Rickenbacker website or eBay

  • yeah, but i need it in black for the fire engine red edition from '88

  • I think I just creamed my pants...

Reminds me of my father's Schecter (pre-shit Schecter. Its a 1980).

  • awesome sound!!!

  • It;s called bi-amping. Its a great technique with the Rics

  • both heads in stereo with the fuzz sound awesome!!! diggin that sound!

nice phat, low end and some kickass fuzz :D

  • Once you start cranking that bassman, you get Chris Squire, I had that sound by mistake, then I heard Yes and it felt righteous.

  • The green Russian big muff pi (or reissue) is the best fuzz effect on bass. period.

  • nice bassman dude, I use the bassman 70 for the guitar, it's really loud and gets fuzzed when it's on max. cool bass too, I wonder how much those cost. I saw a add for this bass in a samash magazine and it said "call for price" so it must be expensive

  • Now THAT'S a kickass sound. Could someone explain to me how you can assign one amp to each pickup, though? That's kinda confusing

  • he doesn't have 1 amp to each pickup. He just does a pickup switch and switches amps. It is possible to do assign one pickup to one amp though, my best guess is by having two output jacks and wiring the electronics separately like that.

  • ....ooo. cool! thanks

  • I think it's a Rickenbacker thing. They have two output jacks?

  • that and the rickenbacker has two outputs, so you can just plug it in two different amps.

  • I use a cheap plastic Arion bass distortion pedal on my Ricky into a huge valve stack and it's perfect for me. I use some un-overdriven low frequencies via the pedal and have the mid and upper frequencies driving hard. Makes me happy. Ok, you need to work with a Ricky a bit more where as my Fender P-bass is a bit more plug in and play but my Rickenbacker 4003 gets a massive thumbs up from me.

  • I hope to god that isnt a DS-1 distortion.

  • sick ... i want a rickenbackkkerrrr.......!

  • you think entwistle used a fuzz or ovedrived his amp in woodstock?

  • O.D.

  • anyone tried to get that sound with a valve amp???

  • He's using two valve amps. Valve = tube. (U.K./U.S.)

  • O.D.

  • I'd like to be in that place, and want you to let me your Ricken for few minutes, and put volume knobs at max... You video just gives appetites ! :-)

  • DO SOME MOTORHEAD!!!

  • I wanted one like that too... I have another bass now. Bass playing is cool, great sound you have!

  • what song is that?

  • Nice vid....noisy pedal though.

  • thats a pretty sweet bass

  • Fuzz Plz!!!

  • the groove got cooler at the end and yeah that last mix of clean and distorted sounded badass. it was just, so, for lack of a better explanation "blah" before the end. but i love the tone and thats why i searched ricks so 5/5

  • Loved it when you switch it up to neck position!

  • what finish is that and what year

  • i don't understand why people get super sweet basses and run cheap effects through them

  • I disagree... It's not how much an effect pedal costs that rates it but the sound it produces, and you just HAVE to agree that the sound is pretty huge!

  • fuzz bass rules!

  • Wow... It sound pretty

  • what you mean top and bottom? top and bottom of what ? thanks

  • The pile of amps. Top amp and bottom amp.

  • I like the third effect.

  • Rickenbakers are badass

  • I don't think you can really judge an amp through a youtube video

  • i saw cliff burton with one of these and i want one so bad

  • i know, a fantastic bass, i'd love to have one.

and an amazing bassist, may he rest in peace.

  • hear absolutely no bottom end

  • You have bad ears or lack a subwoofer.

  • lol.

  • dude the sound awesome!!!! Where did you get that thunderbass from?

  • This bass is suitable for ANY genre. I love it.

  • Avatar 210 up there?

  • Reminds me of muse

  • My most favorite bass of all time for obvious reasons (well... to me... and some people who know me... i dunno)

  • ohh the sound is so powerfull!

  • is the pickup cover makes any difference in sound???

  • The solid pickup cover tends to sound darker than an uncovered pickup but it's not a big difference.

  • That's for pickups in general. The treble cover on Ricks does change the sound a bit, plus you can't play directly over the pickup. It does look mighty cool though.

  • is that make a difference in a jazz bass?

  • I've never heard of anyone uncovering Jazz Bass pickups but I suppose you could. It's already a fairly bright bass, so I don't know that it would be a good idea. Keep in mind, the covers are soldered on.

  • I am talking abuot the ashtray cover and he neck pickup (metal) cover If that makes any difference, Because Ricks are coming with a metal pickup cover
