This island newer belonget to China. When Russians came only some Aleuts and Aina people lived there - nothing to do with China. Better learn history.
I live in Hokkaido(JPN) and I want to visit Sakhalin to see beautiful nature some day. I also met Russian fishermen who gave me Russian soft candies and I was younger and glad at that time!
@SvialeK I worked at OPF on the Sakhalin 2 project and also Odoptu/Chayvo. I love your island...I also miss it. I have some great memories and I seen lots and lots of snow. Now im in Qatar in +40's rather than -40's and I would swap anyday ....I am now proud to say I have a lot of Russian friends....Spasibo
Nevelsk I could not agree more. I have never loved a place or a people so much. But each of us see some memory here, the site coats, a familiar face, the plastic cups, the salmon, the bridge. I will always love Sakhalin. I will always want to go back. I have not got a clue who they are, but I remember the great times.
Sakhalin life in a nutshell...You go "na prirodu" (outdoors) almost every weekend, make a campfire, cook "shashlik", drink some vodka, take pictures, dance, sing, laugh, and have the greatest tim ewith your friends. My heart will always be there, and that's why watching pictures of people that I don't even know and knowing they are from Sakhalin makes me want to cry and miss the island with all my heart.
