This song was released as a single in 9/82, written and performed by "Tears for Fears". It was included in their album "The Hurting" which was released in 3/83. Their version is more up-tempo and campy than what you hear here. Gary Jules covered this song for the movie "Donnie Darko" and slowed the tempo. In 2009, American Idol's Adam Lambert covered this song on the week of "Your Born Year" (Adam-1982). He chose Gary Jules' haunting version. They both covered this song beautifully.

Tears for Fears wrote it but Gary Jules does a better job my opinion just because I think it's nothing as emotional in the Tears for Fears version. the Synth kills it -- 80's. hehe.

yeah, the gary jules version tends to hold more emotion than the tears for fears version in my opinion. This song has been covered by so many people it isn't even funny, but the weird thing is is that i haven't heard a cover from this song that i didn't like. The lyrics itself are amazing
