The book left out the whole heart of the story. Timothy tried to no avail to get the ringmaster to get dumbo into the show as a one-elephant act. Then they got drink and came to in a tree, That's when timothy discovered Dumbo's great talent. Then Timothy went back to the ringmaster with this news and finally got him to agree. The moral is that without someone supporting you, your talent will never be known no matter how great it is.
