On March 19, 2006, a judge ordered that sales of The Notorious B.I.G.'s album Ready to Die be halted because the title track sampled a 1972 song by the Ohio Players, "Singing in the Morning", without permission.
I got my copy of Pain and proud Mary too on the local label Top Hit Records which I drew in the sixth grade. 806 Chalker street was my address. Only Jessie 7 The mell-o-tones and the Players were on that label. I loved you too much, and give it up were jessie's cuts.
yeah, junie does the howard codsell character on the motor booty affair song. and he did the not just knee deep track, one nation & other stuff. check out his when the city track he put out in 04. just google junie morrison when the city vox. it should come up. its a jam!
I still have the original Pain album from 1971 of this in excellent condition. funky worm, never had a dream..excellent stuff. they did a set of three albums...Pain... Pleasure... Ecstacy and i think Pain is the best, just love it even after all these years. the ending of this is so cool
This was the shit! I got the demo from Akron of Pain. 45 baby! B side was Proud Mary. The Westbound Stuff was the groove! This pocket is wide as the Highland Tunnel (and deep too!)
Am I wrong or do I hear some Lenny Kravitz in this song...... and yes I know that this was produced when Lenny was still at school.... heheheeee if ever.....
@AyatollahWatts pease, don't get me wrong, I like this tune here and of course I like lots of Lenny's music, maybe my speakers to not work really good ...hehehee, and after listening to this track again, I think you're right... maybe I was much too stoned when I wrote my first comment... so please, forgive me, although I think the main vocal voice... hmmm.....
That was Junie Morrison. He brought a real comedic spin to the OP along with great production ideas and writing. He left to go solo at first but his career never took off.
Yeah when Junie left the Ohio Players he went on to become a writer and producer for Parliament/Funkadelic. Aquaboogie and One Nation Under a Groove on of his great P-funk credits!

Again the arrangements, killer. They might have been one the most technically adept funk units of the time along with Mandrill.

On their Westbound releases you can really hear the caliber of their musicianship. I missed that from them during the Mercury years later on.
