  • I once went to a shop's fabric department to buy some green fabric like you did. I found some but it looked a bit too shiney, so I got my camera out to see how it would look.

The shop assistant then interruptted me and told me I wasn't allowed to use a camera in the shop. I explained I was only really using it as a light meter but she wasn't interested. (There's someone who didn't want a sale.)

Thanks for the microphone tip. I'm looking at upgrading my kit and that's something I'd find useful.

  • glad to see that the barn is completed and you have achieved the youtube studio dream. I wondered if the nasty weather that swept through the south passed through your neck of the woods, but glad to hear you're back to "beautiful days in north east alabama." looking forward to more videos from the youtube capital of the south. best regards.

  • @asboothby Yes the barn is near done and usable now. I still have things to do to make it better but those will come with time. We were lucky with the heavy weather with only a few trees blown down and broken around town. Our days are becoming beautiful but still a lot of rain, which is good knowing how dry it will be in a month or two. More videos are to come. it is easier to make and upload my video now than ever and I have in mind several that I would like to make. thanks for watching

  • @addernoir01 I would think that this software would use the same method for replacing the pixels of the green area. And yes, the green must be variation free or the chroma keying does not do well.

Sure, let me hear your aideas for another "by request" video

  • Another interesting video. Just wondered what wattage the lighting was. for me the screen lighting is two 500 w work lights , these are free standing, not expensive.

  • @Vintage1923 Thanks. The spiral lights are rated at equivalents of incandescent lights and these are 50 watt equivalents which gives me about 500 watts equivalent on the green screen . The great thing about these is that they produce very little heat and one can aim the light as needed individually.

  • I remember watching an old news clip on youtube. It was in color and I think it was about 40 years old. The newscaster appeared to be seated like you are here. The video from the news segment appeared to be on a green screen. As the video started to play, the newscaster appeared to scoot out of the screen.

It looked very advanced for the time to me.

  • @jefferyb304 I to remember when the TV networks started using green screen technology as well as when the movies did. It is amazing that we can now do in our homes what took thousands of dollars and groups of people to do just a few years ago. I really enjoy playing with the modern video technology and plan to do more in upcoming videos.

  • very thorough and insightful! i wonder hoooow many people are out there, who just bought a blue or green blanket, shouting "that's it, now i'll become a youtube / CGI filming pro!" and were pretty disappointed afterwards....it ain't THAT easy folks. but people like you make it easier!

  • @thekeyboarddude thanks for your comments. You are right, not easy, but doable with practice. My first tries at "green screen" was not too great.

  • Awesome job and clear as it could be! I really appreciate your effort and know this will be useful information to many. Your green screen & lighting is just perfect. Tornadoes here in OK also on Thursday eve last week. I have chasing one on my bucket list :)

  • @Catalina031 I'm glad you were pleased. Many do benefit from online tutorials, maybe mine will fill the gap for the more mature youtube users. We had hundreds of tornadoes in the South this weekend with several dozen people killed, sort of scary really

  • Great tutorial. Very helpful

  • @robe111 thanks Rob

  • Very well done! I don't make videos, but your description of your setup and why you chose the bulbs you did was very clear to me.

Thank you for taking the time to explain. I've learned something new!! Suzy

  • @wdbreezy Thanks, glad what I presented was understandable to even non-video producers. Maybe you will give it a try and make a video for us sometime.

  • thanks, messabout! i learned more than just about how to use a green screen!

  • @alecshinyuanwu Glad you got some good out of my video, Thanks
