I dont think this is the Original Doom For DOS. Dont remember having THIS Face. However, I own Dooms 1 and 2 for Xbox and Doom 1 and 3 For PC. Ive seen this Face quite a bit actually in Doom 1. Whenever I try to make this face in the game I can NEVER do it, Then when I forget about it and stop trying it starts making the damn face! Its funny.

But because of an programming error this face is shown when you GAIN 20% or more health while in pain state. So normal gamers don't see the face quite often.

@advancedlamb because unlike most people, they don't look things up first. this isn't a glitch, but it is a bug in some cases. The code of the game was wrote wrong in one instance, and it made the face go off at times that ID hadn't originally intended.

That's the "ouch face". It was intended to appear whenever the player takes heavy damage all at once (like being hit by a rocket), but due to a bug it only appears if the player takes a heavy amount of damage but ends up with *higher* health percentage. As a result it appears only rarely in the original DooM.

Many of the source ports have fixed the bug, and so it appears normally in them.

This is a glitch in the ORIGINAL version of Doom released in 1993. As decadence5423 says the original code was accidently swapped round so that the face displays when the player is damaged but somehow gains more than 20% hp from the attack rather than lose 20% as was intended. As a result this face was never seen in-game except in unusual circumstances.

Newer ports of the game such as Zdoom fix the bug, as do the later console ports.

It is a bug. The logic in an if statement in the game was swapped around. It was intended to happen if the player took more than 20 damage. However, because of the bug, the player needs to take damage and gain more than 20 health in the same tic. So taking damage and using godmode cheat will demonstrate this bug.

actually it's not a glitch. it's commonly called the "ouch" face as it was supposed to appear when u took on 20 or more damage from one hit. ID accidently reversed the code though so now u must gain 20 or more health from one hit. this means u would have to pick up a large health source while u were still in a state of hurt. this bug is fixed in mods and later versions of DOOM.

OK everyone, it's not a glitch. It's supposed to be the "saved!" face.

When you get health right after being hit really low, he's supposed to make the face like "OMG!" because it was really close. Anyway, the reason it does that when you IDDQD it is because it boosts you back up to 100% health. You could also just stand on a medikit that's next to a wall and shoot yourself!
