  • didnt like it sounds like a band i dont like, called oasis,,,

  • I saw them (JMarr&Healers)... in a Buffalo NY club, touring to promote Boomslang. I'm 53 yrs old and a huge music fan of all genres (except c&w)....and I must say that in the hundreds of show's I've seen dating back to 1971....this was definitely in my top 25! Zach Starkey played drums on that particular leg of the tour.....I was a Smiths fan sort of...I reflect on the eighties as being the worst musical period in my lifetime.....therefore I never focused on just how talented Marr really was!

  • shocking to say but sounds like the stone roses with a splash of the cult

  • Johnny Marr is a true legend and pioneer in his craft. He is a real master at less is more in his aproach to guitar playing. No flashy virtuoso playing. He has never been a "look at me" type player. Just lends his beautiful melodic style to the song. He never plays a Million notes looking for the right one. He knows exactly where to find the right groove on the fretboard. If I had to some Johnny Marr up in one word I'd say INSPIRATIONAL.

  • reminds me of oasis. But is that a bad thing?

Johnny Marr is a legend. everything he's ever done is ace. Great guitarists, great songwriter and a great guy.

  • really reminds me of early the verve

  • Johnny is a legend. But he can't sing. He should have hired a singer.

  • nice sound, reminds me of the Stone Temple Pilots.

  • Johnny Marr could wipe the floor with more or less anyone.

  • sounds very be-here-now and how soon is now-y

  • all my people right here right now, dyou know what i meaaan

  • im a big noel galagher fan, and even noel admits to wanting to be like johny marr he always grew up as his idol. and its easy to see why, he is musicaly gifted and got style, whats not to like ?

  • oasis copied marr not , marr copied nobody.

    doubts?:

    watch?v=Y1MsuoNJQ3U

  • @GustavoDiazPavez Is it possible to be a victim of your own success? You definitely hear tones of Oasis in this b/c Oasis was heavily influenced by the Smiths and the bands that emulated his sound.

Johnny Marr is such a humble guy that a lot of people have no clue who he is. His influence is still going strong. He has been in a lot of bands. He also looks young so it might be easy to think he is new on the scene.

Just my thoughts on the subject:b Long live Johnny Marr!

  • The Smiths were a HUGE influence on Oasis, and Johnny Marr is one of Noels top guitar heroes, however that doesn't mean that Oasis can't influence Marr, which I think they definitely have here, I think it's a good song but not true to Marr's style what so ever, a far cry from songs such as Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others, he's got more back to himself with The Cribs, you just have to listen to We Share The Same Skies to know thats a Smiths riff just played distorted

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds a bit like noel

  • Is it that cold onstage?

  • i dont need to read these comments except Harley's... I'll try not to be too biased 'cuz JM is my favorite guitarist/songwriter ever.

The thing is he ain't a natural frontman, BUT I sa him on this tour in San Francisco, and he ruled it!!! Great show, great singing, great everything... sure he's got an an all-star band, but they all kicked ass; JM, Zac, everyone.... unforgettable show. I hate when dickheads dis his post-smiths stuff without really listening. All JM's stuff is bad-ass!

  • is he Noel or is Noel he???????

  • @Rockferry2008 noel is definitely he. johnny came way before haha

  • Johnny Marr is one of the greatest guitarists to walk the earth. I love the guy but what the bastard hell is he wearing here?

  • @46lar fella's cold.

  • Zak Starkey is a fucking talent.

  • Johnny Marr is my favourite guitarist of all time, but even I am even feeling the Oasis vibe here, funny considering how much he influenced Noel, that maybe eventually Noel influenced him :) Interesting, however his work with The Smiths, Electronic, The Cribs and Modest Mouse is alot better then this :) He is just not a frontman, interesting to know he can do the whole distorted bluesy rock thing like, but he shouldn't need too, he's Johnny fucking Marr!

  • Longlegged: look for the oasis interview where they talk about seeying Marr for the first time and deciding "this is what I want to look like" and then shut up fool....

  • It's sad to see him trying to look, move and sound like Oasis

  • @longlegged, It's sad to know you don't know the Smiths. This man is a legend, I spose you can't come from Manchester and not be a little inspired by the Beetles. But Oasis owes a heap to th Smiths and Marr in particular.

  • @longlegged ...dude, you got it backwards.

  • @longlegged Yeah, what @Exumaishere said. Haven't you seen that video of that what's-his-face Gallagher brother as a roadie for the Smiths?

  • Reform Electronic!! the best Sumner/Marr side project!!!

  • Wow he looked so cool here, beautifull.

And the song & performance is good too.

I wonder what it would sound like with Morrissey or Dolores O'Riordon singing it........

  • I don't know what any of the comments said. Probably a lot of trash talk. I'm just going to say Johnny Marr is a great guitar player. The Smiths were a great band. And Oasis will forever live in Rock N Roll History. End of discussion.

  • not a front man / singer

  • That's not fully true. Since joining The Cribs him and the rest of the band do a cover of "Panic" at every gig. Plus, there's one or two videos on here of him performing Smiths songs.

  • Johnny Marr is a fantastic guitar player. I really like Boomslang and hope he makes another solo album. But what annoyes me is people giving him criticism just because his music doesnt sound like what it was over 20 years ago when he was part of a groundbreaking quartet. So fucking what! He's aloud to move on musically so lets just sit back, listen and enjoy!

  • Usually the greats get BETTER though.

  • I agree completely. He would actually be less great of a musician in my eyes if he didn't evolve and write new songs, and just played the same old Smiths-esque songs over and over. And even though his solo stuff doesn't get the same kind of spotlight and exposure, his songwriting has actually grown since the Smiths days. I think alot of peeps out there that say his solo stuff isn't as good are just Moz lovers, and probably disagree with me when I say the Smiths were 60/40 Marr all the way!!

  • you're right, plus without Morrissey singing it wouldn't work as a Smiths type band. what i find annoying is that he pretty much refuses to play Smiths songs, why ignore your past especially when Marr wrote some of the best songs ever imo. i just hate whenever a band breaks up and everyone acts like they're so evolved and genius that now they can't play songs from the past.

  • Johnny Marr is looking like the Gallaghers and sounding like a cross between the Beatles and the Stone Roses. This is upsetting. If this were anyone else you wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Shame he never did anything as good after the Smiths.

  • It' Noel who' obsessed with Johnny and he's said numerous times that without the Smiths there would be no Oasis.

Marr was always busy writing music and playing some of the most beautiful tunes with Morrisey' haunting voice. I think he has a good and I'm grateful he' still playing music.

  • I met him last night, what an absolute gent!!

  • @HerrHorst303 Can you PLEASE tell me about it. I LOVE Johnny Marr. BTW, for all you nay sayers, he can play, do, and wear whatever he feels like. It doesn't define him. How many of you know he played the guitar on Inception, yes, the movie, with Hans Zimmer. Fucking BAD ASS.

  • @iBlonde007 What he plays, does or wears doesn't define him, what does then? :S

  • he's playing blues licks cool

    he never did the smiths

    but this song rocks

  • Johnny Marr is a God as far as I am concerned but is this really written by the same man that wrote The Smiths songs?....it's very lucklustre and dull

  • uhm morrissey dident write this song and he wrote the lyrics to all smiths songs, johnny wrote the music

  • I know that's why I put is this the man who wrote the Smiths songs.....as in Johnny Marr wrote all The Smiths songs... I didn't mention Morrissey writing any songs???

  • well ok whatever..

  • great song

  • AWESOME didn't know he sang wow. Sad.

  • Marr on an SG?!!!

    Now that is TASTY!!!

    5 Stars!

  • Plays it also on Meat Is Murder with the Pretenders.

  • Johnny, are you cold?

  • Fuckin' amazing performance and song!!

  • Don't like it but just seeing Zak there makes me go wild.

  • straight up, Johnny Marr is just one truly bad ass cat.

  • @southerndandy89 yes true but he cant sing , he should stick to what hedoes best

  • great song

  • smaxit your an idiot

  • Marr nails this one - and his band...what a bunch of renegades... while Morrissey's boy band goes the way of gym acrobatics... not that there's anything wrong with their gym coach wearing Prada.

  • Johnny Marr and Zak Starkey

  • Marr has aged very well, cant say the same for MoZ

  • people from the us dont understand, this is not copying oasis, jonny marr is from manchester like oasis they share the same accent, this is how people sing from there, it was started by the stone roses in 1985 and loads of bands sing like it

  • Well...one of us gets it.

  • Make that 2...

  • What the fuck is this bollocks about people from the U.S.?

I don't even like Oasis but I dig this and everything else Johnny has ever touched.

    Watch those generalizations, guy.

  • weak

  • is there anything he cant do? he even played football professionally hahaha

  • what's with the fucking people slagging this man off? he's a fucking legend, he's so great you shouldn't even open your mouth to say something. there's no fucking oasis in this, HES JOHNNY fucking MARR. appreciate whatever he does and while he does.

  • Oasis is not in this, this is in oasis. i totaly agree with u man.

  • @HarleyJohansson in fact it's Oasis that asked JM to perform with them on many occasions and who have played in THEIR sets his other songs many times! The Gallagher brothers have often spoken of their reverence of Johnny Marr.

  • @HarleyJohansson : Oasis? A bit there is Starkey at the Drums!

  • @HarleyJohansson You have has said it perfectly.

  • this is awsome

  • marr didnt get oasis famout at all, he gave noel one of his les pauls when he heard oasis playing in a small club in manchester because noel was having to tune up after pretty every song with his shit one!

  • that is so cool

    marr is so cool

hmmm..guess that's why he's got that BIG ASS COAT on... hahahahahahahaha

  • It's true!!! The Gallagher brothers love their Mum lol!!! I saw the 'Smiths' live! so piss off prat!!!(Meat is murder tour!) read it and weep!!

  • is that zak starkey on drums?

  • correct

  • pay attention to the bass

  • alonza bevan is a fakking genius. wish he was in my band, know what i mean? :)

  • the start sounds like how soon is now

  • oh come one, people please stop to compare the jhonny's work, the healers it's a complete newbrand thing, doesnt even sound like how soon is now, by the way some one could give me the chords of the jhonny's guitar in this song i'm already got the riffs

  • this is quite awesome

  • it is no way such a piss take you twat if you had any sense ov music or history you would know that mr marr who was in the band the smiths were form Manchester and so were OASIS and in Manchester this is how people are considered to dress like. and noel Gallagher considers johnny marr as his hero so dont you think this would be insulting to noel yes it would and johnny thanks noel for thinking him has a hero or else oasis would have never happened

  • marr is the one who got oasis famous

  • I love the way he just teases with his riffs. Brilliant!!

  • He has aged very gracefully, looks a lot better than morrissey does, not much difference from the smiths days, just a little more weight to the face, quite amazing he looks so comparatively young.

  • He has "A little more weight to the face" in this video but not now. He look pretty thin at Reading 2008 with The Cribs.

  • hes 6 years younger than the moz though.

  • I actually agree. Marr is a fucking genius songwriter and guitarist, why settle for being an average frontman? I don't think it's necessarily the singing though (it never stopped Ian Brown). This sub Oasis stuff is depressing. Middle age gets to the best of us.

  • I love this man's work, and whatever he does, I respect, and not be one of these bitter folk who are still pissed he left the Smiths. He left for health reasons...

  • What do you mean he left for health reasons. I thought it was because he was stressed out dealing with Morrissey. I mean, I guess that is health reasons but was there something else.

  • Johnny is awesome but he should of never left The Smiths. It was the biggest mistake of his career. This is not a suitable showcase for his talent.

  • WHO fucking says? YOU? gtfo. if johnny wants to leave the smiths and join fucking the Bangles thats HIS decision and HIS integrity he is retaining. if anyone questions that then they are just haters. nothing like respecting others decisions

  • That's not an opinion. It's simply a fact. Any of the bands that he chose to be with still have not reached the same level of the The Smiths in the past or even current day Morrissey shows which are consistantly sold out. Johnny's new bands simply aren't acheiving this same level of success. Hence my previous comment. Leaving The Smiths was the biggest mistake of his career. It does not make someone a hater by pointing out the obvious facts.

  • some people dont want "Success" - some guitarists have OMG Integrity and follow thier principles/ideals... doesnt mean it was a mistake. it was a mistake by YOUR standards, not johnny marrs or even moz's.

and Fyi modest mouse sell rather well with the young'uns.

just cos YOU think it was his biggest mistake does NOT make it fact. i'm sure if you said that to his face he'd punch you the hell out..

  • "blindingsun" - you shouldn't get off your antipsychotic drugs without your physician's approval; don't forget to attend your anger-management meeting before seeing your parole officer

  • NO? i'm defending johnny marr. i think someone should being that he's not here to defend himself. And who are you to say i'm on drugs or parole? you don't know me or anything about me and i'm certainly not on either. And i'm not angry, if you chose to see it that way: it's because you have comprehension issues.

  • I love Johnny to death, he really is an amazing guitarist and has managed to stay looking young while everyone else is looking half dead.

But he looks a bit like an extra from Oasis in this clip....

  • I like Morrissey...But I gotta agree with you about johnny he is good guitarist and he has age pretty well...Peace..

  • I love how the Marr fans try to trash those of us who hate just about everything Johnny's done since The Smiths. We're entitled to our opinion too. I hated The The, Electronic and The Healers. Pure rubbish IMO. It's shame too, because I'm a huge fan.

  • I have immense respect for Marr but I have to agree with you on this one and no offence but he can't sing and there's no melodie in his music anymore... However, no doubt he is underated and a legend non the less.... I think he needs to find the right singer for his music.

  • Yes, I believe you've hit the nail on the head. Not a whole lot of melody in his music since The Smiths. He used to write brilliant melodic pieces of music before handing them off to a guy who layered brilliant vocal melodies on top of them. He hasn't found anyone since to fill that void, and his music has also become less melodic, as you said. The only work of Marr's that I've liked since The Smiths is 'Walking Down Madison' with Kirsty MacColl. Still love him to death, but miss the old Marr.

  • What do you guys think of Modest Mouse (+ Marr) then? is Isaac Brock a suitable front man for Marr?

  • i disagree about marr being modest hahaha i met him he defiently has an ego

  • which is partly why he's able to DO things...

without ego, there'd be NO music or art or anything beyond the ordinary

  • embarrassing really.....

  • you're no frontman johnny....you sound like pure shit.

  • It seems that Johnnys style over the years changed the way he is using other guitars. With his Smiths-Rickenbacker or his Gibson 335 he sounds incredible, with his Strat oder Tele still good. Now he´s playing an SG, Fender Jaguar...

  • I don't get it with all the negativity. Look, I loved The Smiths as much as anyone, but I've dug EVERYTHING Moz and Marr have done since they broke up. Marr tries his hand at all styles, and to tell the truth, the ONE style he avoided studiously was 60s style guitar rock. Now he's trying a bit of that with a psychedelic flare. Sounds great to me! As to ripping off Oasis, who ripped off who? Marr has every right to go in this direction if he so pleases. He's not ripping off anyone here.

  • generally I think you have to have a bit of an ego to be a good frontman - Johnny Marr is just too modest. you can kind of tell by how softly he sings, though he has an interesting voice. it must be difficult to sing and play lead as well too.

  • I so sad... He created a style in 80's and now he is doing shit like this and he is immiting Oasis. So sad... So sad... So sad... So sad......

  • Oasis would be the first to say that they were imitating Johnny Marr.

  • The naysayers never quit with Johnny Marr. When he played with The Smiths they said why doesn't he solo like a real guitar hero? With Electronic they said why doesn't he jingle-jangle like with The Smiths? With The The it was when's he going to stop prostituting himself to all these 'projects'? With Modest Mouse it's why is he so weird now? Now The Healers are Oasis ripoffs? Jesus! The man's range is wide, and he does what he wants to do! Isn't that good enough? Isn't that why he's great?

  • I was fan of this guy.

  • That happens to be his natural voice, aving never been a lead singer hitherto, the clothes he is wearing are from his own fashion range of which Liam and Noel buy from, Johnny Marr was instrumental in their success, spotting Oasis before they hit the big time.

  • Out of all the bands he's ever been with, I tend to like The Smiths, Electronic, and this band.

I dislike Modest Mouse, for some reason, though.

  • They sound just like Oasis! Marr lost his career when he left The Smiths....

  • Um...no! define career? Being on the cover?. He's a hugely talented musician in his own right.

  • I have their (Johnny Marr+ The Healers) album, and they sound nothing like Oasis.

Love both bands, but I don't think they sound extremely similar to one another.

  • He never used to chew gum when he was in The Smiths.....

  • I'm sure Marr would disagree. Shees! You're talking about 1987, for Christ's sake! You're probably more broken up about it than Marr is.

  • No vorbiss. Wrong way round. Liam looked and sounded like he does waaaay before Marr became a frontman.

  • fuckin wank, get back to morrissey marr you fuckin idiot.

  • Marr is his own talent!

  • I agree Marr is a hugely talented guitarist and songwriter, its just a shame he didn't get the same success and recognition with Electronic, The The, and The Healers, the partnership between Morrissey and Marr was a unique chemistry and will probably never be repeated.

  • Darn in it Johnny, leave Modest Mouse, call up the Mozzer, say "hey, you wanna get back together, sure? k thx bye" and get The Smiths back together. Joyce and Rourke are replaceable.

  • god, not so keen on this. what hes doing with modest mouse is much better.

  • Marr is actually a helluva frontman! His vocals have a strong resemblence to Liam Gallagher's, and the music is somewhat similar to Oasis' as well.

  • LOL he looks and sounds a bit like liam gallagher playing guitar in this.

  • You mean Liam Gallagher looks and sounds like him.

  • I actually thought he kinda looked a teeny bit like Noel...

But, both bands don't really sound like each other, and both are wonderful musicians.

  • agree totally¡¡

i have too and i think the same

i'm f...ed about the compares, johnny marr is one of the best ever.. noel was closer to get

  • he came BEFORE oasis dude..

  • I love you Johnny ^_^

  • this wasnt too bad an album. Although he's probabaly happier contributing music and ideas than having to do the whole shebang himself.

  • What the fluffing chuff?

    Phone up Morrissey, quick.

he needs you, and you need him

  • When was this?

  • Jan 22, 2003

  • I hope Johnny leaves modest mouse cos thats a shit band.

  • oh dear

  • Sure, this isn't the Smiths, but the album is pretty damn good. It's better than the stuff he's doing with Modest Mouse, IMO.

  • ...the coat, the chewing-gum...the sound...he influenced Oasis and then turned into them?? Jonny, you're a great guitarist. You can do better than this.

  • Me no spam - me 'no 'ow to jam an Morrisey - im' big Girl's Blouse!

  • Dem boy no de Healers - de Healers was a soul band from London UK IN c1967/ Cum wit de Bombo!

  • Thank God he joined Modest Mouse and utilised his talents somewhere else. As much as I love him and he's is one of the best (possibly is), the Healers were sub-average and no one was interested in the. His co-writing with Brock on the last Modest Mouse album was a revelation.

  • The Smiths is Dead ... =(

not the same without the ol' geezer Morrissey

  • marr -any members of the smiths=way better

  • marr is a legend, no question...but you're right wungabunga....he's no front man. stick to the guitar man and leave the mic to moz.

  • Sack it Johhny. You're no front man and that was as boring as all Squire's tripe after the first Stone Roses album and anything those toerags Oasis have done.

    Bore on.

  • i think you and wungadontknowwhat are all wrong...

johnny marr can do anything that he want to do, my personal opinion is just that....

    boomslang is great

  • i wonder what the yanks thought of it ??

  • theres a hint ah noely g in there

  • i never heard about this...it's like 4 years ago, right? we never hear about a LOOOTTTT of English pop culture. I think that you guys know all our shit but we haven't a clue about yours.

Amy Winehouse isn't even THAT famous here, yet. Like, I'll bet 50 year old women know about Wino. Not so here: many 20 somethings haven't a clue.

  • 50 year old British women: sorry

  • One of them is former Kula Shaker member..great song!

  • johnny marr & noel gallagher...fookin' gods

  • Johnny Marr is still the best you fucking cunts...

  • I still have Boomslang on my mp3 player, I really dig this song.

  • Great sounding bass but it's overpowering the song. This groove reminds me of Ted Nugent Stranglehold.

  • Has the same progression as D'yer know what I mean by Oasis.

  • yes that is zak ! just back from seeing the who heWAS AWSOME Tonight

  • i like him in modest mouse better.

  • sounds more the charlatans, stone roses or primal scream wanna-bes. johnny's lost now

  • charlatans, stone roses...who do you think influenced them??? If ya know your Manchester bands you'd know it started with Joy Division/New Order,The Smiths...8 to 10 yrs respectively before the 'summer of love' style kicked in !! Get ya self a copy of 24hr Party People...an education for those TOO young to know who actually influenced who!!

  • The bands you mentioned were particularly influenced by Johnny's guitar style and sound on tunes such as How Soon Is Now...London..Barberism Begins At Home...Meat is Murder..the list goes on!!

  • Zak was a founding member of The Healers

  • Is that Zak Starkey on drums?

  • incredible disc, this is one of my favorits records
