  • I practice shinjinbukan which came from kyodukan however onaga sensei just personalized his view on 'ti' so its a little different. This makes the kyudokan and shinjinbukan styles very rare as the true art of 'ti' is dying and only a handful of people in the world actually teach it. Ganbatte!

  • For all the other shorin ryu karateka out there - yes, the hip movements r a must and he is not exaggerating thrm. He is demonstrating 'ti' which was the original indigenous okinawan martial art to which kyodukan style has its foundation in. U will not find the same philosophy in the other shorin ryu styles practiced today

  • Thank You for this performance; this kata has some variations depending on yr style, but I personally liked very much because of very strong hip movement and corret naihanci stance.

Because of You I have trained these 3 katas after some year's break. Domo arigato gozaimashita. wishes older sensei fm scandinavia.

  • nice hip movement I approve, I studied Shobayashi-ryu system which is Shorin Ryu / Shimabukuro from Dan Williams and turning the hip over is very important to generate maximum power.

  • you have to be careful when watching these videos because some of them are not in the nihanchi stance, and if its called nihanchi, it should be in that stance don't you think..lol..thats why i like this video, his form is very good and the stance is correct

  • i am working on nihanchi nidan now. I am a blue belt (8th Kyu)in okinawan shorin ryu karate which i study from sensei Frank Hargrove. I will be a 7th kyu at the end of this month. i also love martial arets. my brother studies ninjitsu and is a green belt in that style.

  • I practice Okinawan Shorin-ryu Kobaiyashi. I am a white belt and I am learning all three of these katas. I got 2 of them down, but the Sandan is where I need help. this video helps a lot. I love martial arts.

  • Very good kata , I have been learn Kobayashi Ryu from sensei Petiluna for the past 2 1/2 years

  • the result of no hip movements in kata is a direct result of people not doing while they show the kata and continue practice. my sensei shinzato which is a student of onaga sensei has said numerous times " more hip'. exagerated, to you it may look but that should be proper practice and execution of kata. feel free to watch any of onaga michiko's videos. as many senior instructors thru all styles have said she is probably the best student of karate they have ever seen.

    domo arigato gozaimashita

  • muy bueno.. exelente!

  • This guy is very good. I really like the Naihanchi Katas

  • This guy really know what he is doing. I really enjoy the Naihanchi Katas.

  • very good execution.

  • What style of Shorin Ryu is this? Kata looks very nice, not sure why so much hip rotation, is this how it is taught in this style.

  • @ShorinRyuRonin

This is a lineage of Shorin Ryu from Kobayashi - Chibana, called Kyudokan. The founder, Yuchoku Higa, was related to Chojun Miyagi and trained under his top student, Jin'an Shinzato in "Ti", the original art of Okinawa. I believe the hip usage is the result of this. This practitioner is a student of the Higa Family and they are all excellent from the top to the lower ranks.

  • @Koryuhoka, to learn how the hips work & learn to get power I agree but not when you have learned the Kata as an advanced student, this is way too exaggerated for an advanced student. But again if that is how you continue training that is fine but you will never get the speed needed in reality. Just an observation, no right or wrong, difference of opinion I guess.

  • @ShorinRyuRonin come to my channel and subscribe for new katas black belts and join my club

  • @ShorinRyuRonin So exactly how long have you studied in Okinawa and how many styles have you mastered?

  • My Sensei always told me that when you can see the Bunkai in an application, you know it's quality, and I definitely saw them here.

Your intent and waist power are both very strong. Thank you for sharing.

  • im glad to see the other comments say such good things. its terrible when some are asking where are the backflips and 360 kicks are. Very nice kata here

  • Wonderful!!

  • Brings tears to my eyes... :')

    Excellent!
