US congresswoman Cynthia McKinney has come out and blamed the pro-Israel Lobby in America (AIPAC, ADL, ZOA, etc) for ruining her political career. While in congress she refused to sign the pro-Israel pledge and took a pro-Palestinian stance. Because of this, McKinney said “war was declared” on her by the Jewish lobby. In 2009 she told TIU's Ognir that “more than 99% of Congress work for Pro Zionist Israeli interests.”
The best version of 40 in my opinion, I prefer this stripped down approach. Bono's vocals are more prominent and melodic along with Edge's softer playing.
This live version of 40 is very haunting because it's just Bono, with a gentler and softer voice and Edge (playing gently on guitar for this version), which in my opinion makes the melody just stunning.
they played 40 using only edge's guitar because bono's voice was very weak. if they would've used all the instruments we probably couldn't understand the lyrics. just listen to other live versions of the same song and you'll see. its a known fact that bono had voice problems during the popmart tour
When they recorded this song for the War album, Adam had already left the studio (the others thought they didn't have a decent song to close the album with) and "40" was recorded with Edge playing both guitar and bass....i think that has something to do with why edge and adam swap guitars when playing it live, Loctus...
in fairness to the audience, this version is a little bit harder to get into. don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, and i love it, but it's different when the melody is on the bass, and the drums are going the entire time. it kind of pumps the audience up. that being said though, it was kinda sad.
i was at the san antonio alamaodome show...i cant remember what the last song was i wqs so dissapointed but anyway whatever it was ppl were singing 40 over the song and afterwards all the way out to the street....we as fans just didnt 'get' the whole popmart thing.
The best audience there is is montreal!! We sang over and over the chorus of the song until we were out and still we could hear the people going out singing it as loud!! And montreal was declared loudest cloud of elevation and vertigo tour!! Even the band decalred somwhere in the late 80'S that it was in montreal they knew they could play in stadiums!!
u2s audiences have been shite since that tour up to now....elevation and vertigo had shockin audiences....too many ppl at the gigs who wernt prepared to put as much into it as the band

What a great version this is. Right in the midst of there biggest stage production they close it with their humblest song. Soft Guitar and Bono.
Gotta love South Africa.
