Okay, so I do like really love him. And I love nothing more than the sort of mysterious element of the French language in his interviews. Yeah, I speak fairly good French and pick up an awful lot of it but it's still nice to actually understand what he's saying for once!
well, if they go to an international school, they start learning in kindy. and they become really good at their foreign language (usually english if its an international school, along with spanish and italian)... if they go to a normal french school, i suppose they start learning english around grade 7-8ish?
hi, im french so I suppose I can answer your question^^^: I really started learning english at the age of 8, but more and more nowadays children begin at like 3, by small things like the colors, numbers...
i remember learning french from my brother before i even started school, it was just like that though, colors and number and "my name is.." type of things. but our first 3 years of school were completely in french , math ,science, everything! we didnt even start to learn english until our 4th year of school, and even then only math and english were actually in english! it was so much fun and im so glad i did it! i spent 3 months in france this summer and i really hope it helped me out!

However,i think thats the better way to teach languages, because even if you forget it when you grow up, it goes back very fast I think (and you hve the advantage of having heard the sounds!!!) I wish i had classes in english when i was little^^

I had French classes from fourth grade here in the States until High School graduation. Then I took it in college. There was a time when taking either Latin, French, or Spanish was required in American school.
I've started learning English in 3rd grade, Swedish in 5th grade and I started French 8th grade. I think French people doesn't speak other languages so much?
Oops! I meant 8th grade for the third language. And I was able to take Latin in 7th grade. I had to quit after a year of Spanish though, it was too confusing!

That's young! I didn't start until I was 10 or 11, and the first few years we only really learnt how to say stuff like our name, age, family etc.

well, I dont really remember it myself, but I know that my little cousins were singing the colors in english at 3, it was so cute^^

i remember learning french from my brother before i even started school, it was just like that though, colors and number and "my name is.." type of things. but our first 3 years of school were completely in french , math ,science, everything! we didnt even start to learn english until our 4th year of school, and even then only math and english were actually in english! it was so much fun and im so glad i did it! i spent 3 months in france this summer and i really hope it helped me out!

Hey but where were you to have your 3 first years at school in french? In the USA?
However,i think thats the better way to teach languages, because even if you forget it when you grow up, it goes back very fast I think (and you hve the advantage of having heard the sounds!!!) I wish i had classes in english when i was little^^

ya im from the US, and it really is great to have such a good language program! we do speak better than we write, but its gotten much better i think =]

I had French classes from fourth grade here in the States until High School graduation. Then I took it in college. There was a time when taking either Latin, French, or Spanish was required in American school.

Right now, kids in France start learning a second language in the fourth grade, and their third in 7th grade. :)

I've started learning English in 3rd grade, Swedish in 5th grade and I started French 8th grade. I think French people doesn't speak other languages so much?

Oops! I meant 8th grade for the third language. And I was able to take Latin in 7th grade. I had to quit after a year of Spanish though, it was too confusing!
