Third degree is a euphemism for a police interrogation method that is as intense as it can be without being considered torture. it usually involves giving the person as many drinks as they can swallow as a "nicety" before the interrogation starts. Once it starts, lots of screaming and they refuse to stop for a bathroom break so your physical discomfort is higher.
