In fairness to the original mainstream "impatient" fans, Frost & Lynch are to blame because the subplots they build around the Laura Palmer mystery were not strong enough to stand on their own. Has there been a stronger love stories (like Audrey-Cooper affair), I think the audience would have been slowly been drawn away from "who killed Laura" as the main attraction of the show. Instead, the murder mystery became the main reason tuned in.
I actually never thought the killer would be shown and was surprised at the big showing... But the show is not based on the killer is it? It is an art show and is meant to be enjoyed not analyzed... As Lynch says, it's philosophy kills the mystery of life... TV shows a perfect world but only the quirky ones show the real world and the mysteries it contains.....
Im 14 years old and a couple months ago knew nothing of twin peaks... I just finished watching the killing and read in the comments how everyone thought it was exactly like twin peaks without the quirks... I searched it on Netflix and fell in love the moment I saw Agent Cooper tell the population to Diane... Seeing this makes me sad that nobody watches or talks of this and that it is an unknown... It's like seeing William shatner play in investment commercials... Sad.. They need to revamp the s
*sigh* What was so hard to get about the concept of this show? This wasn't Hunter, or Matlock, or Law & Order, it's immediately clear from the fucking beginning that the murder of Laura Palmer wasn't supposed to be solved RIGHT AWAY AND THEN WE MOVE ON TO KEEP DOING ONE-EPISODE MURDER MYSTERIES UNTIL EVERYBODY IN TWIN PEAKS IS FLAT-ASS DEAD WTF?!! THE LP MYSTERY WAS SUPPOSED TO LAST UNTIL THE END OF THE SHOW WHICH SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 2 SEASONS!! ...damn. *sniff*
I think they answer their own question when the reporter uses The Fugitive as an example and how we "the audience" held on for 9 seasons to find out who murdered Dr. Kimble's wife. NINE SEASONS!!!! America wanted answers about Laura Palmer after only 1 season. Impatient, spoon-fed audiences and weak-kneed studio execs destroyed this landmark show.
i was obsessed with this, so obsessed that when the film came out id watch it over and over again. i was 10 when i 1st started watching the series that was on tv, wow its so addictive because david lynch sure knows how to make a film( oh and david frost). wish theyd do another one but it wouldnt b the same would it?! ;-)
What a bunch of clown fans killing a kid's dream. I was 9 when this season ended, and this show truly affected me. I was happy not knowing, knowing that it would mean another season. One of the 3 greatest shows ever...
One thing that isn't talked about in these comments is the show Lost. That show wouldn't be for one...on TV if it wasn't for Twin Peaks...and it wouldn't have been marketed and broadcast the way it has been. ABC learned from Twin Peaks......too bad.....Twin Peaks should have been on for years.
there a video on google video where david explains that the murderer of laura palmer was revealed because people where losing interested so they had to reveal the killer they was in a no win situation abc f**ked them over big time
i don't think people were losing interest in general, i think there was just big pressure from ABC to reveal the killers identity, but they shafted David Lynch and the Twin Peaks franchise for sure.
@Nigelcf Right. ABC demanded the mystery be resolved, although the mystery was the premise of the show--it wasn't supposed to be solved for a "very long time", according to Lynch. It informed the mystery of every single character, and without it...there just wasn't much left. Of course the premise had the seeds of its own destruction by hanging so much on one mystery, but solving it in 10 episodes (or whatever it was) was WAY too soon.
I can't believe that they waited THAT long to reveal the killer!! I am kidding of course.
What did these people expect?! Imagine if all other shows revealed their secrets in 7 episodes! What would be the point after that?!?!
They should've waited til the end of the 2nd season at least.
Maybe they should've just had Cooper tell Truman who the killer was in the 2nd episode when he woke up from his dream since these fans couldn't stand waiting for 7 episodes....lol!!
i'm glad they waited until the second season. the show kept getting more interesting. if they would have revealed the killer in the first season it would have been boring.
i was in high school when this show was on the air. cbs' website is airing the 2 seasons of this show. i would recommend everyone take a stroll down memory lane!
After 7 episodes these f**king people REALLY had to know? The show was just - getting - started. And a show this good comes along one in a lifetime. Morons. I agree with Lcacique.
These idiot fans are partly to blame for the series dying. They had to know who killed Laura, begged for it, and when they got it, what more was there to tell. Granted, D Lynch and M Frost were busy on other projects...idiototic audience! Primetime sucks balls as well!
Yeah, it actually was the stupid and impatient fans--and ABC executives--who screwed up what had to be one of the best shows ever. "Twin Peaks" made possible shows like "The X-Files". Comparing it to "Dallas" is pathetic.
Bear in mind that this is an ABC Prime time episode so it was in their interest to show how critical it was to the viewers to reveal the killer. That was one of their many ways of leaning on the creators. This video is ABC propaganda, I for one remember being disappointed by learning who the killer was so I wouldn't hold the viewers responsible. This video was obviously staged!

Thank god ABC learned their lesson from this show and didn't make too many of the same mistakes with LOST. Both fantastic shows.

This what happens when normal/straight/artsy try to figure out art. They can't. If the show had been in europe it would have lasted much longer
