@Seniarth He learns kung fu because Jackie Chan is Chinese, The original Karate kid was based around Japan, Karate, - Shotokan etc originates from there. They didn't change the name to "kung fu kid" because it would sound like a cheap rip off karate kid and because it is the same story.. Just a different martial art :)

Why the hell is it called the "karate" kid when he's learning and practicing Kung Fu? Karate comes from Japan, Kung Fu comes from China! This movie is set in China, Jackie Chan does Kung Fu. This movie has nothing to do with Karate!! Movie makers can't come up with anything original anymore, everything is just re-cycled over and over. Why couldn't they just call it the Kung Fu kid? I find it very disrespectful towards Kung Fu, Jackie Chan, and Chinese culture in general to call this "karate".
