almost everything is correct, but the potatoes and carrots are boiled first (without clearing) and only after cut into cubes. Also not included in the salad oil and vinegar, in the original recipe just mayonnaise. Of the ingredients is missing or sausage meat, cut into cubes.
I'm from Lithuania (formerly, a part of the USSR), and we make it in almost the same way. Except we use pickled green peas and boil potatoes and carrots whole, not diced, and with the peel on. And we don't add any oil or vinegar, just the mayo. I also discovered that some diced apples can be added for a more "exotic" flavor. No idea how it works with the apples (it seems like it wouldn't), but it does. And we call it White Salad :)
:)Hey every one i am from Russian and we call it OLIVIE salad and yeah there is should be some meat in as well:)and this is the salad that all post Soviet Union country making for NEW YEARS celebration and Christmas and we are knew it as FRENCH salad but we change it to our way of cooking it:)so now is look like this:)maybe one day i will make a video of me doing this salad my own way:)hope everyone will like to experiment with this salad:)
its pretty tasty i eated it many times im not russian but i live in eastern europe and some russian foods are still alive in there so i can say its perfect try it people

This is traditional Russian Salad is called "Olivye" in Russia. We also add boiled beef. no vinegar or oil, just good quality mayo. Also, we boil whole carrots and potatoes, peel and cut into small cubes...
Italians got it from Russians. Russians got it from Mongols. Mongols got it from Chinese. Chinese got it from Vietnamese. It is originally a Vietnamese salad.
I am russian and this salad is called Oliviè. First of all we DO NOT use the vinegar and the olive oil. Second...we use canned peas. Then we first boil everything, and then cut it into small pieces, even the eggs.
@cheeriogirl234 it looks sort of funny but I think pickles, potatoes, mayonnaise and eggs might taste well together. I wud probably leave the peas out though.
@flowerlullaby Today it's an Italian dish called "Russian salad"... it seems that few centuries ago it was created in Russian chef in Moscow and then it evolved in many different ways according to the countries. Initially it had also meat inside and many many other things!
@yellowsaffron this actually looks like a version of Oliv'ye, which comes from the french name Olivier. I do believe it originated in France, but it is very popular in Russia.
@bottleofblack We call it Russian salad also. As you called bread bagettes french bread, and fried potatoes french fries. What is the problem? politics? sad. I believe in democracy not in extremes of anything. Totalitarian anything is contra-producting men can only take lack of freedom of the ideas for so long.
Bravo! For central European flavor, you can add corn, diced onion and serve with some smoked kielbasa or fish and a glass of spring water! ;) Nice video!
