I love The Ataris! I think Welcome the night is their best album. I remember seeing The Ataris play at Warped Tour in 2004 and Kris got a bloody nose, and it was running down his face, but he still kept playing......so awesome! :) I'm looking forward to the new album!
Welcome the Night sux, honestly, i grow up with The Ataris, in my skate, nightout with my friends, listen on the car, drinkin, playing up in the roof, dancing with girls, listen the song when im sad, when im happy, dedicating song for a some crazy exgirlfriends, making covers with my band when we were kids... damn, the times change but that kinda melodic hxc with indie, idk how to say it, was a infinte great band when they only play songs for the life, for live, and live new experiences :D
Makes me chuckle how clueless kids are these days. "So Long Astoria" was a flagrant sell-out, they left their pop punk roots behind, going so far as to dabble in this ridiculous "indie rock" trend with "Welcome The Night", which despite what some of you 12 year olds are saying, is by far the worst thing they've released.
The ONLY reason this album is interesting is because they've promised a return to their roots.
@Snuffsaid2007 everytime i listen to welcome the night i feel so bad for kris and all the shit he was going through during that time. everyone changes and he cant keep writing the same shit over and over again. lyriclly(dont know if thats a word) welcome the night is the best, but musically i prefer end is forever.
@Snuffsaid2007 Welcome The Night was Kris doing what he wanted to do. He built The Ataris around him doing what he wanted with the band and trying not to sell out. If he wanted to sell out that bad, there would've been So Long, Astoria part II but instead, Kris did what felt true to himself and his music and that was to write "Welcome The Night" based off his divorce from the girl he wrote countless Ataris songs over.
I loved the Warped CD version of this song. I like this one better! The Warped Tour 09 concert made me fall in love with their music. They have been my favorite band since then!
This is wayyy batter than the mastered version. The guy's voice just sounds smoother. Ha, that's funny cuz his voice is kinda rough lol I'm such a loser. x]
So much better than the mastered version...this one definitely still has more of a "Welcome The Night" vibe to it. I really hope they re-record the "mastered" version for the final album and revert back to this one...it's much more aural and genuine.
I follow the ataris since 1995/1996 and the best album ever is Welcome The Night. I spoked with Kris Roe about this new album and he said to me that is the half way from So long astoria and Welcome the night...very courious...
anyone who has listened to the ataris before so long astoria knows that end is forever is the freaking best album that they could have ever written. and I agree with whoever said this sounds similar to that album and hopefully it is a sign of things to come.
@tuneman83 I was listening to them LONG before So Long came out and that's possibly my favourite album of all time, better than Blue Skies..., better than End is Forever. Totally unappreciated.
the graveyard of the Atlantic will come out at the end of this year right?

Love this version so much, even more than the finished one on the Warped Tour comp. The small lyrical differences give this one the edge.

For me it's one of my favourite records all time. It just has a certain atmosphere, a certain cult to it. Greatness in its best shape.

I actually like this version more than the more developed one.... I cant wait for this album. I heart the Ataris.

welcome the night is definently their best album, and so it ends like it begins would make any bands album their greatest album
cluffer7 2 years ago
So long Astoria were their superior in my opinion
welcome the night well........cheyenne line, whatever lies will help you rest and Not capable of love were good songs
but this sounds very promising. tho Roe will never be the same as with the "astoria" bunch
