  • You did a really nice job with this series and thanks for sharing.

I hike the San Gabriels all the time and the Backbone Trail is, for me, the most powerful spot in the range. The terrain, the lay of the trail, the view...just a wild place. And for you guys to knock it out with 50 lb. packs? Right on.

Although I think I'm a tram guy from now on. It's an awesome ride and a GREAT way to end the day. Nothing better than gliding down that canyon at sunset after a killer hike.

    Thanks again.

  • @teejate Thank you very much for this excellent and well-detailed comment. Are you referring to the San Jacinto tram ride or the Mt. Baldy chair lift?

  • @actionadventures The Mt. Baldy ski lift. (Not sure why I said 'tram.')

I think I might be like you guys and have the instinct to not cut corners. But after taking the lift down one time, enjoying the view while also shaving 3 miles off, I think I've converted to cutting that corner from here on out. :)

  • @teejate Well it just so happens that my last upload is "Linc on winter backpacking to the summit of San Jacinto - with tramway ride." I wasn't sure if you were referring to my latest video! : ) In that one, we take the short cut, too. We've been to the top of San Jacinto on 3 other occasions--without the shortcut. But the tram sure is convenient as I'm sure the ski lift is.

  • Very nice trip report, Link, I find it very useful to go over my past trips, it gives me

a nice refresher of the location and the experiences I've had; a lot of times I have people asking me about the trips.

I know lots of folks out there, they go on a particular hike or scramble, and in 1 month time they don't recall anything from that trip, which is kind of odd; probably they were speed demons rushing to the top, looking most of the times at someone else's heels.

    Cheers,

    Adi

  • @CalgaryAlpineStyle Your comment is greatly appreciated, Adi! You made it to the summit of this five part series : )

  • @actionadventures

Oh, yeah, you bet I did!

Always a pleasure; keep up the great work and I'll be following your footsteps.

  • @CalgaryAlpineStyle I don't think anyone can outdo the footsteps on mountainsides that you've imprinted. And I've done a great deal of backpacking and hiking. If anything, on these videos, we're hiking side by side and just enjoying the great outdoors.

  • @actionadventures There are a few trips that I'd "happily not repeat" but it's mostly about the long approaches

and seldomly about the difficulty, and this includes a lot of friability of the rocks (rock falls) or exposure on

slabs, or other inconveniences like very dense bushwhacking; nothing too serious, really.

  • thx man

  • @andrew2127 You're welcome and thank You for being the first to comment on Part 5 : )
