Light line is used to catch many different species around the UK. Lighter line can provide brilliant presentation oh hook baits, and flies (fly fishing) for spooky or well fished for species. A lot of larger specimen fish such as Tench or Bream are caught using 5lb or below mainline. Its a trial and error way of fishing, keeping the right amount of pressure or not striking too hard. Give it a try, im sure you will be pleasantly surprised.
I have just ordered some Berkley fire line it is 20lb but the same dyameter as 6lb mono but im more of a sea fisherman, Has any one got an opinion on tis product
@orange7879 First of all, learn the use of proper English! Secondly I almost landed a double figure Pike on 4lb line, with a size 20 hook and no trace...It took my roach as I was landing and didn't want to let go, i fought it for a good 15 minutes until it spooked when we tried to net it and it bit through my line, which has nothing to do with what strength it was before you go off on one.
if you know how to fish properly 4lb line is just fine...
@Sast06 almost isnt good enough ive seen my brother land a 15lb pike on 3lb line on a size 18 trble baited with maggot we were fishin fur broonies and nobody knew they were pike in the loch [the ossian near rannoch moor] it was pure luck the spaw ny wee bawbag so stick that in yir pipe and why wood a wan tae lern inglush
@SthealthRaider you're not lifting the fish in the line, u can almost get any freshwater fish on a small sized line and get them all up if you use the reel right : )
@SthealthRaider So long as you set the tension on the reel to the correct strength you can catch pretty much any fish on 4Lb line, you just have to be patient and be too aggressive bringing the fish in. I use 4lb line quite often, if not all the time.
my surnames hayes to ,dont think were related though, have just bought myself a float rod and license have no idea how to start or put everything together,i have a little lake near me and i cant wait to start, does anyone know a good sight to look at to get me fully started ,i should be ashamed of myself as my family all came from sea fishermen but unfortunaltely i didnt get passed on any tips, would really appreciate any helpmany thanks, and matt keep up the good work
Whatching the different videoes on youtube you can actually learn alot. There are mant videoes and many of them are good. try serching around. trying to write how to do would call for a very long message and it is hard to explain with words.
