I think about that also , Where was I before I was born.. Did I not exist ? Or did my energy and consciousness come from somewhere else??? Man it sucks being dumb.....
Here's a definition of nothing found in a 1755 dictionary. It claims that there was no beginning.
Nothing. It is most certain, that there could never be nothing. For if there could have been an instant, wherein there was no thing, then either nothing made something or something made itself; and so was, and acted, before it was. But if there never could be nothing; then there is, and was, a being of necessity, without any beginning. Grew's Caf.
@mcstyles21 i dont know. i wasnt aware that it was supposed to. it was a response to what you said. you said "between your thoughts". my comment is a response to that. whether or not it relates to nothingness has no relation to its intended purpose.
I had a conversation with someone back in 1999 about nothingness. He was saying that between say the earth and mars there is nothing, just empty space, but I argued that there must be something there otherwise the space would not exist and you would simply have two planets joined together. We went on to argue for a long time until he got sick of me but to this day I still think that there's no such thing as nothingness.
Here is something to think about. If there is no atomic matter (ie No Time & Space) but all we have are only white ping pong balls all the same size. Do we have nothing, or the building blocks to create everything?
All you need to understand is the nature of the white ping pong balls, and it is really really simple to understand. Stay tuned.
Let me give you a hand Frank. You are correct, there is no such thing as nothing. Our perception of space and time in only due to the creation of atoms after the big bang. But atoms are only a small part of our universe, I don't understand why this is so hard to understand for people, there are particle that we can't detect yet, but they are obvious to me. Read On.
@nikolayzou If something is obvious to you even though you haven't detected it, then either you have some pretty solid mathematical calculations to back it up (which everyone else has missed so far), or you're a prat who tries to sound more clever than you are. Either way you are not a proper scientist- e.g. the most anyone would say at present about the elusive Higgs boson is that it is a very plausible theory; no-one would ever say its existance is "obvious" to them.
As an artist who has studied 'nothing' extensively in his work, I have found Close's book to be riveting. It is a pleasure to share similar passions about such a mind-boggling issue.
Projecting outwards, even the thought of "nothing" is a finite something. But how are we aware that nothing is something to contemplate?Awareness aware of awareness, is nothing. You are awareness.
Give a little whistle. Always look on the bright side of life. We came from nothing we are going back to nothing. What is there to worry about?nothing.Life a pile ashit when you look at it!
where was i before i was born? i was the beef inside of a cow and i was the nutirents ready to be absorbed by a vegetable. My atoms were spread across the landscape. The deeper question though is why am i me? My physical self is a temporary collaboration of all these atoms but my mental self is... well why am I that? and that begs the question, what is me, beyond these neurons sparking messages to each other? i'm obviously something because i am these things, but why me? why not someone else?
This could be due to existentialism. You experience the world from your perspective that is unique to you. I can infer what you experience but I can never know e.g. if we were both to break a leg how do I know I'm experiencing the pain your experiencing? Another argument is Sigmund Freuds theory of personality development..
all of that is explainable, oh and where was i 2 years before i was born , the closest thing to me would have been earlier genetic codes. . .oh and 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of all matter is OUTSIDE EARTH...not here on earth. if you take it all away..well, you cant , but what if you could...erm , you cant..end of story, nice book.
He's great. Check out his MSN video on the Lucifer Effect regarding the LHC. Frank, come to my forum and talk to us...PLEASE... :) We are just people, but we're fascinated by this. I won't post a link here, but I'll check back in case you're about.
Nothing doesn't equate to existence. For "nothing" is meaningless, and everything that exists, has some sort of meaning. Nothing is a meaningless term.
Where were we two years before we were born? We had to be energy in a different form out in nature i.e. your parents consumed the plant and animal life and trasformed the atoms into you and me.
And after we die we then break down into nutrients that are recycled through the natural system.
Gives a lot of weight to reincarnation....if you consider that our "soul" is caused by the collection of our particles working together....some which would have come from other souls broken down by nature.

Yes, voids, which are in space, have absolutely nothing in them. And when I say nothing, I really mean nothing.

@mp3talon We have very little understanding of voids or anything in space at this moment. So who knows what we will be saying in 50 years.

Nothing does exist, its the gap between your thoughts
mcstyles21 6 months ago
@mcstyles21 thoughts are an emergent property of consciousness and consciousness is a manifestation of the brain.

Even if you have a vacuum, it still exists in space so you don't have nothing, you have space, which is somehing.
