W. Cleon Skousen is a notorious conspiracist crank who wrote the books The Naked Communist and The Naked Capitalist, that claimed that secret insiders like David Rockefeller both controlled the USSR and the US. He also ran an illegal intelligence gathering operation out of his "Freeman Institute," that later put out a high school textboook that called black people "pickanninies" and said white people in the south lived in fear of slaves. What a loon!

Well, I am an atheist and a social democrat, but I'm not a marxist, communist or anarchist. Hopefully, one day we will be done with capitalism, but that is a whole another kettle of fish. I'm actually readying both The Naked Capitalist and The Naked Communist (of course, Skousen wrote many more books). Unfortunately, they are as cranky as I was lead to believe. You didn't say what was wrong with what I wrote about Skousen. Care to try again?

The text book you are reffering is the Making of America and he wasn't calling them "pickaninies" he was simply stating that that's what the white people called the little black children in the time of slavery. Read the book before you make such statements. And Believe me, the Freeman Institute was not an illegal intelligence group. That makes me laugh that you think so. Where did you get the idea that it was?

Thank you for the courtesy of your reply. Skousen was a conspiracy theorist, someone who believed that secret elites conspired to destroy America. This view is rejected by nearly all real historians and social scientists. Skousen's work is thus ignored by them.

I have read Skousen's major works on communism and capitalism, The Naked Capitalist and the Naked Communist, and they are poorly researched and full of logical holes.

I would post to pieces critical of Skousen, but youtube doesn't allow that. If you are interested, google Zaitchik and Skouse, with Salon or SPLC , or Wilentz and New Yorker and Skousen. They will give you of how far out Skousen's ideas are.

I read plenty of non-fiction and history. I try to understand things from different perspectives. Skousen's views on slavery were rankly offensive. The essay he quoted is disgusting.

I like Ron Paul, however he is not my choice to lead the fight against terrorism BUT,

Dr. Skousen was my Book of Mormon and Old Testament Instructor at BYU. He was the most interesting and inspiring person I have ever known.

His books are fantastic reads and he was an American patriot without peer. His teaching techniques pulled you back into history, you felt you were right there feeling and seeing great events in ancient times.

He gave us so much, God Bless him.

I want to read everything he has ever written, and hear every talk that is recorded of him. I am a member from New Zealand I have read "The First 2000 Years" and I am hooked.

I am so greatful to brother Skousen. He will continue to be an inspiration to me and my posterity through out all eternity. I would have said rest in peace, but no doubt he is carrying his massage to the spirits beyond the veil.

It was my pleasure on a few occasions to meet Dr. Skousen. He was such a great statesman, and great Christian! The world is a better place because of him!
