Japan is where drifting originated and the "drift" all driving configurations so yeah FWD drifts as well. And that you are holding and ebrake through a turn excuse, you use the e brake to get a deep drift initiated.
I own a 99 eclipse RS Frankenstein AWD convert (curcuit car) as well as a 89 Nissan 240sx (drifter) it is impossible for a fwd vehicle to drift, a fwd vehicle can slide around a corner, can do tricks but cannot drift.
there is a huge difference in drifting and sliding to a halt. a drift is driving with the car at an angle and continuing to move. Sliding sideways to a halt does not consist of a drift. and to MrZefax the vid you posted is not of drifting just sliding around a corner, which could be done in a go-cart. You cannot drift in a Fwd vehicle, only in a RWD or AWD. at no point in time do you see that civic hit a strait way and take it at an angle, just wrapping around corners and e braking.
ok bud this is some sick shit gimmi some tips on maken my bu E slide.u push down your pedal e brake ? i thought that locked all 4 tires? just rears? this that really hard on your trans? i havnt pushed my e brake down in almost a year but i did buy 2 brand new rears ebrakes when a year ago when saftyd
@roflmao1223 "cuz it's awesome"... hmm good choice of words for an argument! well if you want to see some fake FWD "drifting" look up Fit Rainy Drift Final Trial. That's me! No it's not real drifting but hey it's good enough :)
ARE YOU SERIOUS, GYMKHANA IS FROM JAPAN, HE DOESN'T EVEN COMPETE IN REAL GYMKHANA.
You have no clue do you?
First off, Pick up "Best Motoring: Drift Bible", you need it bad. Second off, AWD was not meant for SMALL gymkhana courses. He has INVENTED his own sport, because his shitty AWD CAN NOT do low speed drifts, like RWD.
But you don't know anything do you?
And yes, you can drift in FWD cars, its a special technique that requires manipulation of the e-brake. Youtube it.
POWER SLIDE GODD DAMN lol its funny cuz these front wheel drive guys take these girls "drifting" and then i take them actually street drifting ...they always pick the 240 =)
if it wasnt wet it would be better but you need far better output that a supercharged regal barely gets buick has to big of gears thats why its a luxuary car
yeah they're definitely nice to drive. i drive my dad's every once in a while and it's a nice boost in torque from my 145 hp 2.5L 4 cyl 1986 Porsche 944. though it is quick for its small engine.
Bought a 98 used Ford Escort, and who ever had the car before me must of been retarded, cuz when i pull the E-brake, my speed reduces by like 5mph....any thing else i can do? :D
hey for FWD ,u guys jus hav to do is that you start ur vehicle with full throttle in 1st gear and after 1.5 sec u turn ur sterring and pull the handbrake ur 360 will be complete and to do 540 u hav to jus made one more throttle and turn the sterring opposite to the first one u hav done
Alright if you want to get technical, drifting can be done in any way to get the back wheels to lose traction through the turns. For that matter, you're correct, you do not necessarily need to use the hand break in order to achieve what is known as "drifting" but simply have the rear slip angle be greater than that of the front, while the front wheels are pointing the opposite direction. If you wanted to be a technical cunt you could have just told him that for yourself.
@frost531 its not a drift in FWD you pull the ebrake, you turn the wheel, you lose a bunch of speed and you try to turn you front wheels to make it look like a drift and the car goes back straight cuz its not RWD, the back wheels need to be spinning faster than the front, and sideways to even call it a drift,
As I already said, you CAN drift in a fwd. Refer to my other comment.. it is considered a drift when the rear slip angle is great than that of the front...
how do you expect to get the ass end out on a front wheel drive car with out the E brake and still keep speed. you can get the rpms up and dump the clutch on rear wheel drive during a turn and get the back to go out. if you do that on a front wheel drive, you will just understeer or push the turn with the front tires spinning
@frost531 - ah but drift involves high entry and exit speeds in and out of corners which in a front wheel drive cant happen as the direction control and throttle spins car out of "drift/sliding" angle to early and slows cars momentum therefore failing the drift
@zeroxstrife250 its nothing like drifting RWD at all. these arent powerslides either because in a POWERslide, you have to be under POWER, not just pulling the ebrake and spinning around stupidly. this isnt drifting either, drifting is either all wheel drive or rear wheel drive.
@bastec666 but drift is throttle control to keep rear end sliding while front wheels control direction of the car.
front wheel drive cannot drift as the front wheels control streeing and throttle there for relying on speed and the e break to slide back out after one maybe two corners speed is halved so not enough movement to slide rear end out by the third corner there for not a drift
@2GRAFFIK actually you are wrong. because the front wheels are "pulling" the car forward you can keep your speed as long as you are on the throttle constantly.
in a proper drift, all 4 wheels are sliding anyway, most people can't do this kind of drift, and is mostly seen in formula-D. shitty drifts where only the rear wheels drift are for beginners. ever watch initial D, they talk about both 4wheel drift and e-brake FWD drifting. they are real techniques, put into a fictional anime show.
@bastec666 who the hell told you that?? haha its a powerslide buddy, once you lose inertia you lose to ability to keep the car sideways. don't convince yourself such non-sense.
@zeroxstrife250 not even close to a RWD. a POWERslide means you are under power. hints the name power slide. now if you do like @frost531 says below and point the front wheels in the opposite direction, in a fwd car, while under power, then the car will straighten out because your power wheels are your steering wheels. thats why you can powersliding in a rwd drive car a drift. ONLY RWD CARS AND AWD CARS CAN TRULY DRIFT. AWD just requires a lot less counter steer
nice job man....try it on dry road now....that shit is fun....96 fwd automatic chevy lumina with 220000 on it and i still pull that shit off all the time....so fun
easy he is not that good also he says fwd cars dont powerslide they do so before i got rid of my 2008 chrysler sebring i would powerslide and do drifts better than that
i have a awsome trick for you it is easter to start ir gravel or ice or snow but all you need to do is turn the wheel ass far as you can to the left or right and keep it there holding the e brake and start burning out it will spinn you front end aruond quik
i wont be impressed....coz what u hav done in this clip is juzt a simple thing...if u wanna play on wet....underground car park area...i will b impressed....when u hd upload it juz gimme a msg....gud luck
not gonna lie.. that was pretty impressive. although it easier with that car since u have the pedal for a parkin brake.... iv destroyed the parking brake on my car doin this shit.. it does nothing now
probly not since you have less control on wet pavement thsta what makes spinning a drifting on wet pavement so easy but controled moves like the parallel parking moves are harder on wet pavement since you stoping must be precise and its way to easy to overrcompensate on wet roads that dry ones
try doing a drift [in a fwd its a power slide] at 50mph its nice except your speed goes down to like 20mph while on a RWD you just loose like 10-15mph
U cant powerslide a FWD Because Powersliding is forcing too much power to Rear wheels losing all traction...You cant Force them too rear wheels because they are FWD
the floor is wet of cours it will slide !!! my bike can slide like hell on a wet floor :P go show ur self on a clean non wet floor let me see if u can drift and all those things !!
drifting on dry ground is somewhat harder but you get more control over the car. But it's better to practice drift on wet surface so you can save your tires. Now who would want to keep paying for new tires. lol unless if your sponsored or have the money. And even used tires will break down too much where you can't even use it for drifiting.
kurac3000 is right - FWD cars don't powerslide. i just put that in there so that people searching that keyword would see this. these are just some car tricks

actually, pin any AWD vs a RWD and the RWD always wins when it comes to drifting the fastest (not shitty point drifting like they do in the US).
In the fast and furious tokyo drift, they had to MOD the EVO to RWD for it to be proper for drifting.
Ken Block is a faggot and he does not "drift". He is inventing his own sport of "large area" drifting, but that's now how drifting was invented.
ALSO, you CAN drift in a FWD, it just requires a different technique than RWD.
bastec666 2 years ago
