900+ days since a budget was passed... we're growing old waiting for it. How about addressing that issue before taking anything else up for consideration.
@spkngrmn There was a Democratic budget for FY2012, which according the CBO, would put us on a sustainable path long before the Ryan Plan and is thus far more likely to in reality. It is called the People's Budget. You probably haven't heard of it because the Republicans and the mainstream media through a temper tantrum and said "No, No, No! We aren't discussing this at all! Not no way! Not no how!"
I think its about time to run grover norquist out of town you wanna blame someone blame Grover and the No Tax Morons called the Republicans. Time to elect Sanders for president
@Slimmey01 It actually upsets me to read this, knowing that it will never happen because Americans would consider it a ticket that is "too liberal." It's exactly what we need.
The two-party system is a joke....The democrats talk a good fight but always prove spineless. The republicans are just out-of-the-closet 1%er a-holes......Both are owned by the corporate lobbyists...If Senator Sanders is a socialist than so am I......Retract NAFTA and keep our jobs here, defund the bloated military, end the immoral wars, spend that money rebuilding the crumbling infrastructure. That is the highway to prosperity.
Bernie - another useful idiot. This committee was set up to fail from the start. We need to cut the spending, cap the budget deficit and live within a balanced budget. anything else is as stupid as this socialist.
@MrJohngalt2011 Yes, idiot, we need to cut the spending: cut the spending on subsidies for big oil, cut tax credits for corporations and other, corporate welfare; cut the military budget, cut the secret loans from the Fed to banks, cut the trade agreements...
No socialism there, idiot. Sanders is well aware the committee was set up to fail from the start. You're not as smart as you think you are.
@gatorhighlights4 Bernie is a moron (like yourself). He lacks the understanding in Tax policy to even talk about the issue. The "Corporate Welfare" and "Tax Credits for Corporations" are items that YOU personally approve of, and ones that Bernie voted for. Tax credits for childcare in the company, educational benefits to employees, vet employment, evironmental clean up and green policies, medical benefits to employees. These are just some of the credits that you want, but decry! MORON!!
@maxmann521 I've told you before, maxmann: Schiff is adding up all his taxes in that number and it includes the expiration of Bush tax cuts (which hasn't happened).
The overall tax burden falls primarily on the lower and middle classes. We know this for a fact; they pay more as a share of their income to taxes than do the top brackets. The income of the top brackets increases exponentially; income of the lower/middle classes goes nowhere. Do you REALLY not understand why this is a problem?
@maxmann521 I've known about Paul since the early 90s. I know what he says and there are many things on which he and I would agree (destroying the military industrial complex and repealing the Patriot Act, for examples) but this is not about "taxing the rich." The problem, and I've explained this to you a couple of times, is that the middle and lower classes pay MORE as a share of their income to taxes than people who make 100 and 1000 times their salary. That's an inequality that needs fixing.
@gatorhighlights4 Yes the military industrilal complex is way out of control. The mic, the oil companies, and the government are all entangled. No wonder they hate us, we steal their oil. Now we r focused on iran.
@maxmann521 And don't forget corporations who sometimes not only don't pay any taxes, they get tax CREDITS, all while raking in record profits. This is a huge problem, maxmann.
We exploit average citizens to give tax breaks and credits to big companies and wealthy individuals. People who say there's a "redistribution of wealth" in America today are 100% right: it's being taken from average Americans and distributed up to the top. Record profits for companies and record poverty at the same time.
Bernie Sanders.... one of the few Senators who fights for the working class. To hell with those who lie about Bernie's truths about the working class. It is time for the people of this great nation to take it back from the oligarchy!!!
I love Bernie Sanders but I feel he's missing a crucial point. Because the super committee has failed to reach a deal that means automatic spending cuts to those social safety nets and the military. I don't know about you but I have this gut feeling that they will cut more from entitlement programs than they will military spending. They are dying to go to war with Iran right now and we're going to be in Afghanistan for a long time.
This and the special elections early this month have, for the moment, made me very optimistic. Originally when Mike Simpson said "We have load these pledges onto a bonfire" I thought damn the Democrats are finished, these guys look real serious to come up with serious revenue, instead they meant all new revenue comes from the poor and middle class as well as all the spending cuts. What tools! Good on Max Baucus for standing up Democratic principles
@krash0061 Actually the word "congress" refers to both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
"The United States Congress is the bicameral legislature of the federal government of the United States, consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives"
Where"s the Senate budget Bernie?

@exacerbatedtaboo According to the BBC, a few programs in these cuts are supposed to be protected, including Social Security and Medicaid.
