Countries like Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Phillippines, Taiwan, England, all wouldnt be able to trade freely, if america dosent allow it. They might not pay directly to the US navy, but they pay by having to cooperate with everything america wants them to do. Like allow military bases to be built or businesses use their cheap labor.

America economy is base on consumption of goods 2/3 and stocks 1/3 (which is a very flaw system).
Japan bacame our leading trading nation, trade tariff are a tax on imports or exports of goods to prevent foreign goods from dominating the local (US) competitor market in goods. Embargo is the partial or complete prohibition of commerce and trade with a particular country.

Japan and South Korea, with the effort of America and more or less the world rebuilding these nations after (WW2 & the Korean War) these nations became crucial trade partners with America, especially Japan. Japan economy center around trade, with Americans no longer able to financially support buying of goods (great demand/consumption) since than Japan had a financial decline since 1989. Ashoka the Great's empire stretch all of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, to parts of Eastern Iran. This empire should have been on the list. If Ashoka had not become Buddhist and embraced nonviolence then there was no stopping his empire!!! He would of engulfed the east (i.e. China, Japan present day). Can you name major battles the Brits won against the Nazis that turned the war? I can name many for Russians. The Battle of Stalingrad, Moscow, Caucus, Operation Uranus and of course the capture of Berlin. The nazis were mostly concentrated on Russia too and the Russians lost over 60% of their military.

Islam has the greatest lasting influence of all empires, so in a way its the biggest. And right now it has the potential to be the biggest in a couple of years. The Mongol empire, Alexander's empire, the European empires all fell. But Islam still remains. 4 of the largest empires: Ottoman, Abbasid, Ummayyad, and Rashidun, are all continuations of one empire.
