@thatguyontheright1 but it didn't need add ons. It was only released in Japan and despite not being released in the U.S., the snes still beat the genesis. thats what the add ons were. They were life support. While the sega CD did have some good titles (sonic cd) the 32x was a bigger flop and gamers werent suckered into it because they knew that the ps1, saturn, and n64 were coming out soon.
So my point is, while the snes did have a add-on, it isn't really made fun of, while the 32x is fail.

Unfortunately in any discussion regarding a console system of any kind almost always warps into a console war. Ever since this recent console generation this new "console war" has gotten real ugly. I shudder to think how ugly it will get with the next console generation. Hell, I won't be surprised if it spills into TV ads as well like with the Sega TV ads in the 90s.

And speaking of Fanboyism, I've noticed that it's absolute worse with PC Gamers. I myself prefer the PC, but I got sick of many hardcore PC Gamers online bash consoles and console players, especially with sticking labels on them such as "Consoletards". And they blame console gamers for developers turning away from PC Development. Well, lately they've also blamed people who still use Windows XP .
@SkaarjSoldier I really hate people that bash on me for using XP. I don't have much cash, so I can't buy a new PC, or even 7, but it's because I love my XP so much. Although, you're right, modern gamers are horrible. Hence, I stay away from recent titles and play something like Civ 3 and Neverhood.
@fightclubhubbs In Japan the SNES was always king, and in 96 Sega dropped support for the Genesis in favor for the Saturn cause sales were obscured by the Playstation thus leaving Nintendo the 16 bit market for itself, 97 and 98 could've been still profitable for the Genesis but Sega was desperate and put all their eggs in the Saturn's basket, the Genesis was dying anyways but Sega buried it alive, that's something people don't know or don't remember.

You could not see many titles from Sega after 96, it was just third party companies still trying to squeeze money out of the system specially EA even the Genesis 3 was manufactured by a third party and not Sega, and about the 32X...it was just an unnecessary add-on that not only was expensive, but with people hearing rumors about the Saturn in the horizon gamers were smart and just waited for a full 32-bit new cd based system, but we were not talking about the 32X that's a whole different story.

I'll admit that even back when I was in elementary, seeing Sega's ads made me shake my head with the way they acted so arrogant. In fact, I did a facepalm when I saw an ad for a sonic game, comparing Mario Cart for the SNES to an old and worn out slow as hell vehicle. Sega's Arrogance was one of the factors that put me off on getting a Sega Genesis and instead opt for a Super NES.
Another think I'd like to comment. Looking back at this ad, I'd like to know just what the Hell Sega was thinking to release the 32x and Sega CD. I had a few classmates who's parents bought both add-ons for the Sega Genesis, but later thought that they were a waste. Noone I knew never liked the 32X nor the Sega CD.
Hard to imagine for anyone back then that Sega would now be making games for other console makers. But that is what happens when you have too much pride. You fall.
Genesis always will be the best.

Russia is just one country. World wide, the Wii has sold 56 million+ as of September 2009.
Xbox 360 and PS3 have sold about 35 million+.
