Some of the accusations are probably true, some are probably false. US special forces are usually very professional, so they probably weren't involved in any torture, but it makes sense that some government people are taking part of the ransom money because it's a lot.

The Philippine-US VFA (Visiting Forces Agreement) prohibits US forces from operating inside Philippine territory except in training and exercises for the Philippine military. By Philippine Law, US soldiers are not allowed to fight the Abu Sayyaf inside our territory, only assist our commanders..

@AccordGTR Curious. I already saw the GMA reporter Jiggy Manicad was harassed by a US Marine (or Army soldier, I forgot). This Marine (american marines don't like to be called soldiers anyway) pointed an M4 or M16 at Mr. Manicad & his cameraman. I saw this footage years back. The watch group stated that Jiggy can file a complaint against that Marine. I don't know if he pushed this through or he succeeded in doing so.

The vast majority of Christians in the Philippines openly hate Muslims in Mindanao, southern Palawan and Sulu; a view eerily not unlike the attitudes of ethnic Serbs toward ethnic Kosovans or Bosnians before war. Of course, my brother. The Katipunan and the other revolutionaries were fighting for a free Luzon and founded the TAGALOG REPUBLIC, not the Republic of the Philippines. The Katipunan were only active in Central Luzon. The people of Central Luzon, both Tagalog and Hokkien, only care for each other and never cared and still don't care about other ethnic group, languages or traditions in the philippine archipelago.

There's nothing wrong with BJE if it only replace the name ARMM but an expanded ARMM to other outlaying provinces is not Moro dominated areas anymore.
Why can't the MILF rebels accept that fact and abandon their high ambition, just focus on making ARMM achieve peace and prosperity, or become a model of all regions in Mindanao? Perhaps other provinces will want to be included in ARMM if they see this type progress.

Arroyo and her allies in the Congress probably were willing to consider MOA-AD despite the unconstitutionality when they attempted charter change but due her administration's public disapproval and mistrust that she's might be using it to prolong her term they repelled chacha.
The MILF prefer having the MOA-AD signed by the government first before referendums. They are aware there will be so many oppositions to their demands and they are concern that a plebiscite regarding MOA-AD will be most likely rejected by the majority of the population so they relied on Arroyo administration's ability to convince the public especially those in provinces affected by MOA-AD.
the Muslims in Mindanao are brainwashed and obsessed about a dream of a separate Moro state which is creating problems in a Christian dominated island of Mindanao...the rights they are provided is not enough, they want it all or there will be violence...this is a type of Muslim radicals in Middle East spread among their fellow Muslims to create war and conflicts.

Moro LUMAD civilisation in Mindanao has a long and rich history of trading and 'being human' - civil to others who come in peace.

The LUMAD (tribal peoples) are highly marginalises and exploited in Mindanao and the RP.
'A normal life' to you/others is a very different concept to LUMAD. To say 'chosen to live' this life is very sujbective/one sided. LUMAD in many areas are persecuted/cheated because their ancestral domains are rich in minerals or fertile for agriculture.
There are more than two sides to this, and examples of LUMAD marginalisation are widely reported and recorded. Research this please.

To put it simply, the Moro people in the area of Sulu and South West Mindanao (and even South East Mindanao) were never defeated/their land taken by any colonialiser.
Their lands (in their eyes) were never taken/legally signed over. To start, research the Treaty of Spain, Bates Treaty and Treaty of Paris.
Read the 'Swish of the Kris' which you can dowload online. A rare book which documents the history of the Moro and Tribes of Mindanao. It answers to many questions you raise.
I met a Moro Datu who had a rare printed edition of this book in which he had used a yellow highlight pen to mark the text that he regarded as very important to him.
Same person kept me and my wife from harm when the peace process collapsed last year.
This was behaviour of a honorable and respectful man.

I agree that this conflict will continue for generations if peace is not made. Regarding respect, the Moro peoples do respect others. They do not respect those who have/would take their lands from them that they have fought for centuries to hold.

This Marine (american marines don't like to be called soldiers anyway) pointed an M4 or M16 at Mr. Manicad & his cameraman. I saw this footage years back. The watch group stated that Jiggy can file a complaint against that Marine. I don't know if he pushed this through or he succeeded in doing so.

There's nothing wrong with BJE if it only replace the name ARMM but an expanded ARMM to other outlaying provinces is not Moro dominated areas anymore.
Why can't the MILF rebels accept that fact and abandon their high ambition, just focus on making ARMM achieve peace and prosperity, or become a model of all regions in Mindanao? Perhaps other provinces will want to be included in ARMM if they see this type progress.

Arroyo and her allies in the Congress probably were willing to consider MOA-AD despite the unconstitutionality when they attempted charter change but due her administration's public disapproval and mistrust that she's might be using it to prolong her term they repelled chacha.

The MILF prefer having the MOA-AD signed by the government first before referendums. They are aware there will be so many oppositions to their demands and they are concern that a plebiscite regarding MOA-AD will be most likely rejected by the majority of the population so they relied on Arroyo administration's ability to convince the public especially those in provinces affected by MOA-AD.

Moro LUMAD civilisation in Mindanao has a long and rich history of trading and 'being human' - civil to others who come in peace.
This was bastardised by colonial aspirations and tactics used by colonial powers who took a different (violent) approach to subueing 'the natives'/converting them to christianity.
If people can just recognise the rich history and culture and their persecution, then a better understanding/platform for lasting peace can be realised.

The LUMAD (tribal peoples) are highly marginalises and exploited in Mindanao and the RP.
'A normal life' to you/others is a very different concept to LUMAD. To say 'chosen to live' this life is very sujbective/one sided. LUMAD in many areas are persecuted/cheated because their ancestral domains are rich in minerals or fertile for agriculture.
There are more than two sides to this, and examples of LUMAD marginalisation are widely reported and recorded. Research this please.

This is a complicated matter. I am not from Mindanao and it has taken me over 3 years to begin to understand this conflict.
To put it simply, the Moro people in the area of Sulu and South West Mindanao (and even South East Mindanao) were never defeated/their land taken by any colonialiser.
Their lands (in their eyes) were never taken/legally signed over. To start, research the Treaty of Spain, Bates Treaty and Treaty of Paris.

Read the 'Swish of the Kris' which you can dowload online. A rare book which documents the history of the Moro and Tribes of Mindanao. It answers to many questions you raise.
I met a Moro Datu who had a rare printed edition of this book in which he had used a yellow highlight pen to mark the text that he regarded as very important to him.
Same person kept me and my wife from harm when the peace process collapsed last year.
This was behaviour of a honorable and respectful man.

In Mindanao, there are many good people (Moro, Christian, LUMAD) who are peaceful and can live together.
Big problem comes from GRP and corporations gaining from conflict. Use google and others here to put a value on warfare/conflict.

I agree that this conflict will continue for generations if peace is not made. Regarding respect, the Moro peoples do respect others. They do not respect those who have/would take their lands from them that they have fought for centuries to hold.
Respect must be mutual; most of the disrespect is not coming from the Moro peoples but from people who simply do not truly understand history or the Moro people and have never set foot in Mindanao or Sulu.

Let us all give Obama at least a chance to help (though complex for him).
I think Obama does understand and he is able to help solve the conflict here. HOWEVER, many stand to loose if he does this. Therefore, if he decides to help make peace, then it is at his personal risk.
Question is if Obama is controlled by 'same-same' companies/individuals, or if he is prepared to do what is right regardless? (remember JFK?)
