This is from Joy Division's RCA demo sessions. Long bootlegged on the Holy Grail of Joy Division bootleg vinyl... "The Box File." AWESOME VERSION!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!
Interzone riff is from an obscure disco song. To see the BEST documentary on Joy Division, use youtube search bar with "JOY DIVISION DOCUMENTARY PART 1" then click "JOY DIVISION DOCUMENTARY (1/10)." Interviews with surviving members, engineers, managers, girlfriends, people who were there... great archival audio/film, places in Manchester that don't exist anymore, audio of Ian hypnotised. REAL CONTEXT of the place & time that spawned Joy Division, the books, the ideas, records Ian listened to.
Interpol is a great band. If you've listened to "Turn On The Bright Lights" and think that they're not a great band, then, well, I don't know what else to say. And I say that without discrediting Joy Division. Joy Division is an amazing, groundbreaking group. But Interpol does not suck.
I want to start a church. The church of Ian Curtis. And Heaven will be youand all of your friends sitting in a comfortable room listening to joy division for all of eternity
They aren't the "new Joy Division" , they can't , because JD's songs were made of Curtis feelings , Curtis is dead and Joy Division died with him . So there can't be any "new Joy Division" .
But Interpol is such inspired by Joy Division , you can "feel" it . But you can't feel this "pain" that you can feel by listening to Joy Division .
Somebody once told me to go listen to Interpol. They are the new Joy Division, he said. After listening to some Interpol stuff, I went to his home and killed him...
dont go into a war about joy division and interpol. interpol are an amazing band there first 2 albums are excellent. yes they are pretty a modern day version of JD and yes Joy Division cannot be matched because there one of the best and most influential bands ever, still doesnt mean Interpol are crap.
I had nowere to turn then ian curtis spoke about his illness I was hooked, his dowfall became my strengh I needed something and someone .his wife made it all come clear..
rip the book touching from a distance was a great thing for me.. jay
"Interzone" is a William Burroughs term he created in his surrealistic novels, an imaginary world of his creation.
Curtis was reportedly a Burroughs fan, but was rebuffed by his hero when Curtis tried to meet him after a Burroughs reading event! William was usually more gracious than that in his later years, I think. Must have caught him at a bad time.
this is the track 'Interzone' from what was going to be their first album called Warsaw, the band is also Warsaw (later called Joy Division) with Ian Curtis singing
they meant rare as in finding a rough version back when JD were Warsaw isn't so common, I can guaruntee most people haven't heard the rough/early versions.
is this from their first recording session, the one that was not released because of a dispute with a producer over the results(thin sound) untill after they signed a contract and remixed it?
in an interview he answered that they're dark but definately not nazis.get over it for fucks shake.besides sid vicious used to play with a t-shirt that had a swastiga on it.they're not nazis
fuck off dude,i wasnt answering to you, i just found your comment as an opportunity to make it clear. and by the way who are you calling an idiot...you stupid cunt..fuck off
i meant warsaw footage, of course. i've enjoyed joy division videos for a long time, and many of my students are amazed at the images of ian curtis in performance
I think they got the title correct. The band was originally called Warsaw, and this song appears on their album (yes, i still have the vinyl) by the same name. Then the name changed to Joy Division and cut Unknown Pleasures. This song is definitely not the Interzone on that LP.There was a compliation called Substance on which this song, titled Warsaw, is included.
You are right. Ian Curtis and the group named themselves initially 'Warsaw' as at tribute to David Bowie's song 'Warszawa'. But they changed their name to 'Joy Division', borrowing their nom d'arte from the prostitution wing of a Nazi concentration camp that was high - lighted in the book "The House of Dolls", so as to avoid confusion over the name of another punk band called "Warsaw Pakt".
This is a really good version. On the Unknown Pleasures version, is it Curtis singing both vocal parts, I used to assume it was Barney singing the higher part but when you listen to the Warsaw demo and he's singing in his tenor register...it could be either. Anyone?
Bernard Sumner never sang in Joy Division. When this song was sung live, Ian Curtis would do the lead vocal and Peter Hook did the backing vocal. For the studio recording , Ian did both.
Thanks man. Seen "Control" yet? It's really, really good....but (as this seems to be the topic of this comment page) they totally ignored Ian Curtis' fascination with the 3rd Reich...which I thought was a cop-out, editorially, since D. Curtis certainly lent it ample attention in her book.
Well I'm fascinated in the way one is fascinated by a car wreck. The point is, they ignored it entirely. Remember that WWII would have been within living memory of most adults when the members of JD were growing up.
For someone who knows about the lyrics of the song Warsaw, it is strange that you don't know how it sounds like because this song is Interzone and has nothing to do with Rudolf Hess.
Am I missing something? What jail number? This song is titled "Interzone" and as far as I know has nothing to do with Rudolf Hess. You are talking about "Warsaw" and this video is not it. If you're accusing the band of being Nazi sympathizers, maybe you should learn how to write properly so that people understand what you really mean.
Did you woke up on the wrong side or something? You don't have to go all mad on people like that. I honestly still am not sure if you're commenting on this particular song (Interzone) or the band itself.
Yellowcatz is correct. Warsaw is the name of the BAND here, not the name of the song. Warsaw later changed their name to Joy Division and did have a song called "Warsaw". Understandably confusing to the uninitiated.
Joy Division were influenced by early 70's bands, iggy n the stooges, pere ubu, television, etc but there's so many bands that have been influenced by JD since then, you can hear JD in most indie music since late 70's..i think there's a band called The Editors who are very JD...i'd reccomend The Stooges for that primaeval scream tho! best o luck:)
