Nanashi vs Kenshin Himura......who do you think would win!?!?!?!
PS: Lets say that both of them are bound by Nanashi's universe rules, so Kenshin cant teleport and ish. But Kenshin still has his strengths such as being uber quick and having fast reflexes, but these are dumbed down to realistic standards.
First off, Disney does not equal Pixar, and comparing this amazing film to any amazing pixar film is like comparing a ADHD kid on caffeine pills to a puppy injected with liquid cute. While both are entertaining, they are completely different experiences
This is without a doubt one of the greatest pieces of animation ever made..its absolutely riveting and beautifully choreographed.Pixar and Disney are incapable of creating such masterwork in the craft of animation..all hail Studio Bones.
@IAMTHEVASTUNIVERSE You know, while I like this movie plenty, it's pretty stupid to define a great work of animation solely by pretty fight scenes. The average Pixar movie has far more substance than Sword of the Stranger.
@BornIn1142 Who the hell asked you?I've seen every Pixar film to come out and I can honestly say no scene has captured me the way this scene always does in one of their films..its simply more then a pretty fight scene its a emotionally riveting moment..every second builds to a brilliant and beautiful ending that I've yet to see from Pixar or Disney..the best scene Disney ever animated was the opening for the Lion King.
@BornIn1142 i have to say that i agree that comparing this to pixar is completely inappropriate... while pixar may focus a tad more on verbal communication this movie uses the FIGHT SCENES to touch you. the music and the characters feelings WHILE fighting are what make this movie so beautiful. pixar is for children and thus uses a different technique to get it's point across...
I have yet to see an anime fight scene that comes close to what this scene does. I'm not taking about just the fight. I am talking about the music and the animation here in this fight. They draw that raw human emotion out. You can feel the passion and the struggle of the fight by the expressions of these two, but it is the music that flushes these emotions through your body, leaving you amazed.
@ultima209 i agree completely, one of them searches for a worthy opponent who came please him, and the other seeks redemption. its like they where fighting for the one thing they want most.
I can't stand fight scenes where the characters are flying around the whole time, blasting energy balls at each other and swinging their swords so fast you can't see the action. For all that they try to make an impact, it's the the scenes like this one that make an impression. These characters are more vulnerable, more human. In the end, that's what really makes us care.
@Mr1das Actually, the Kenshin OVA series (Trust & Betrayal, called “Samurai X” in the USA) is even BETTER than this. Note I am *NOT* talking about the cartoony TV series, but the much darker, better animated, and generally brilliant 4-part OVA series.
@lostwindreaper hakuoki, reroni kenshin. samurai 7, samurai champloo, if u search for it u should find a bunch these are off the top of my head. hakuoki and sam champloo come closest to this style of fighting. sam 7 is really good worth checking out.
@freeloaderforlife Sort of... there is a Rurouni Kenshin 4-part (~2 hours total) OVA that was also released as a continuous movie. This was named “Samurai X” (Trust & Betrayal) in the US. Not to be mistaken with Rurouni Kenshin the TV show, which was about 99 episodes. The show and the OVA series are *extremely* different in tone, animation, etc., with the OVA series being much darker, more realistic, and better animated. I agree that Sword of the Stranger bears a lot of similarity to Samurai X.
This movie was truly remarkable. Like, It takes alot out of a movie to impress me, but the action, characters and music, they all wrap around a beutiful written story about a hero. One of the best films in a long time and most definatly one of my favorites...
Haha, I had to look them up, but when I did I realized that Yutaka Nakamura's done animation for much of the anime I consider to have superb action sequences. I'll have to agree with you here!
It's called being a Good and Experienced animator you idiot. Famous doesn't equal good. How do you know I don't have experience?Oh and for your information, when I said I want mines to look that good.I was talking about the fighting scenes. I'm Already working on mine, with a few other people and it looks fantastic.
Wow, sorry for not believing some random guy on youtube could possibly put out animation on par with one of the best Japanese animation studios. Also, what's the budget for your anime? How many staff are you employing? Who's doing in between animation? Key animation? Painting backdrops? Writing/storyboarding? Composing music? Also, where did you get the equipment to set up an animation studio? Oh, you don't have those things? Then it isn't going to look like Sword of the Stranger.
I have watched this movie for what has to be more than twenty times, and I will NEVER tire of that final battle scene. This is what the word "epic" was made for.
if fight scenes were treated like this rather than just a few punches and it being over like other films every fight scene in a film would be fantastic

Probably the greatest fight scene in any anime ever. The whole time you're waiting for these two to cross blades, and right as they faced off I was thinking, "I really hope all the suspense up until this battle doesn't go to waste."
