@jean9910 This tank particularly didn't have a sump but the 90 gal in my other video does. I think it was a Fluval Canister filter but if you can get a sump, the filtration is much better.
i like saltwater fishes and ima be getting a 30 gal saltwater tank fish and live rock can u help me on telling me what i would need and how much would it cost and any advice plz
ur gonna have to move ur angel to a 50+ eventually. anything under a 50 should really be used for a reef tank unless you plan on keeping small fish which is a very limited selection. and kade, a if you mean the hippo tang they get too large for a 30 gal as with pretty much all tangs.
I think I know a thing or two about aquariums so thanks for your advice but if you look above at the "video response" you would see that I've upgraded to a 90 gallon tank. And will be getting a 220 soon.
And the angel in this video, which I don't have anymore, is ok in a small 30 gal tank which is the min. Now I have a Koran Angel which requires a 90 gal min. But thanks anyways.
I don't remember exactly. He actually got sick and died. Maybe $20? I got a Koran angel to replace him (see the new video) and recently added a lemon peel angel.
I have a 30 Gallon myself and it's finishing the 1st cycle. I have live rock, a snail and 3 hermit crabs. What would be best to add next considering 30 gallons. Also what would best fit my tank?
I'd say you're ready to add fish. When I first got this tank I added the maroon clown fish and anemone and an angel fish. You can always ask the fish store what goes best together. I have a 90 gal tank now. Check it out!
I hope you got a real small one. I think you really need a larger tank for the blue tangs when they get bigger, but I'm sure a baby one smaller than 2" would be fine for now.
I heard they were difficult too, but we tried it and he is really easy to care for. Supposedly they're vegetarians and is difficult to get them to eat anything at all, but this angel will eat anything and everything you put in the tank. The clown is actually a pickier eater. The only problem I've had with this guy is his face. We can't seem to get the lateral line disease to go away, but we seems healthy otherwise.
the video is over a year old... and I change the water once every other week... they're in a larger tank now... AND i'm not a man. Thanks for looking.
i just got back from the fish store and im trying to decide from a maroon clown or like 2 normal ones (forgot what their called). they said the maroons are very agressive and will dominate a 30 gallon tank. have you noticed and problems?
Our maroon clown was the only fish in his 30gal for a year. When we added the bicolor angel they were best friends. I don't know if this is true for all maroons but mine seems to like angels. When the bicolor in this video died, we added a Koran angel and they are such good friends that the Koran stays near the clown and his anemone at night.
I have a 90 gal now and added a Niger trig & a Huma Huma trigger, they're more aggressive but amazingly they get along great! I'll post a new video soon.
Wait, hold on.. Are they actually called sexy shrimp? They are pretty sexy and I want a pair for my aquarium but I don't want to look like an ass at my local fish store by asking for sexy shrimp if they don't exist.
is it ok if i keep my tank at 82? i will have clown fish i have crabs and i just started and im going to get more fish ...so is 82 ok? thats what the fish guy said
Nitrate is 0. We don't feed them that much anymore. We got this tank a few years ago used from an aquarium owner who told us to feed a whole cube of frozen food. We only feed half now. This video was also taken a few years ago.
Yeah, I was told it was the smallest we could have too. We're wanting to upgrade this tank to a 180 once we move into our new house. We got this one a while back bc we didn't have enough room for a bigger one. Plus we were just starting out so it is a good learning size.
The water is crystal clear so idk how much cleaner it could get. (the camera is not the best either). And with 4 fish that live in there and an anemone, trust me it is not too much food. The clown feeds half of it to the anemone so any less food would starve everything in there. Thanks, but I know what's best for my tank, just like you know what's best for yours.
You're the only one saying that. Have you seen my other videos? I just watched the video for the first time since I put it up months ago. That part of the video was when I first got the tank like 3 years ago. My water is clear now despite your rude remarks. And compared to other tanks that I've seen, the water in this video is pretty damn clear. Maybe you should ask questions before making false assumptions. do you always make condescending remarks on everyone else's video?
I think just 2lbs of live rock per gal of water, live sand, salt, and a filter that is 2x the tank size (so 100 gal filter for a 50 gal tank). Those are just the basics if you only plan on having fish. Now if you want coral you will need other supplements. I think that is it, but if I think of anything else I will let you know.
so r u going to get a fishlore account?? its really fun u can ask questions and other aquarist will answer them. If u do add me cause your a fun person to talk to and i don't have any fish friends.
I did. But I saw a cute little goldfish and wanted him before someone else got him. He was fine for a month, but I'm not real sure what really killed him. He just suddenly got sick and died within 24 hours. He's the goldfish on my other video. I have 4 new ones now that I got soon after and they are all still alive.
After a while it gets easier to care for corals once you get use to it. I just looked up fishlore. It would've been nice to know that was there when we first started. Everyone kept telling us something different but we finally figured out what was best for our tank and went with it. If this is a brand new tank, definitely don't add fish for a few weeks. We lost a goldfish in the freshwater tank from doing that.
yeah it should be alright, but if you were wanting to add corals you will want to add more rock. it builds up bacteria to kill the bad organisms in the tank and also nourishes corals and benefits fish.
If you want infetabrates or realy delecate fish then you need it. If your just getting tougher fish then it will be fine. But you will need 2 times the filtration.
I have a 28 gaollon fish tank. whats the max number of fish i can have? and do i really need a skimmer cause every web site i go to says skimmers are super important? I'm thinkinf of a clown fish for sure. can i have a bicolor angelfish like yours?
i wouldn't add anymore to ours so I'd say 4? we had high nitrate problems until we got a skimmer. we do water changes once a month and put the skimmer on for a few days out of the month. you can get one pretty cheap on ebay. our clown and angel are like best friends and get along real well so I'd say go for it. our clown is also really aggressive to newcomers and use to hide behind rocks until we got the angel and now he's always out.
i don't think that will hurt anything, but idk if it will help. maybe a 25% change once a week will keep it down, but it just seems more convenient for me to just use a skimmer. (and cheaper in the long-run after all the salt and stuff you got to add to new water). I'd say try it but just keep an eye on everything.
Nice! Crowded, but as long as everything is ok.. Some extra info for these comments.. RO-Reverse Osmosis. Don't mix clowns! It's ok to add a new clown with an old one, just same kind, a lot smaller than original, and add it slowly! I put mine in a while after and they're doing great! A Skimmer isn't a must as long as there's enough surface agitation. High Nitrates..PARTIAL WATER CHANGE! Live Rock and sand are a natural filter and provide food, More=Good! Hopefully this helped a little! =o)
Thanks! Two of them stay in their little caves most of time and we always made sure whatever we decide to add is ok before we actually add it so they are fine. Skimmers are not necessary but it has helped our tank in keeping nitrate low since we got it. partial water changes only helped for a few days before rising to unsafe levels again. now we only have to do monthly changes, instead of weekly like before. I would personally recommend it to anyone with this problem.
that angel needs a way bigger tank at least 60gs and goldglover u cant have more than 1 type of clownfish unless ur tank is at least 100gs and when u get clownfish either get 1 or get them in pairs
were going to get fish and a reef this weekend, what were planning on getting are a maroon clownfish and a couple other clowns. were using a special kind of water called RO
What's RO? clowns usually dont get along with other colored clowns. the maroon clown doesn't get along w/ even another maroon! if you want a bunch of clowns it would be best to get the same species, can't really mix them, and def wouldn't recommend a maroon. maroons can be purchased in pairs tho. when we got our maroon clown, we were going to get a bunch of different ones, but ours is soo aggressive that he wouldve killed any new ones. when we put new fish in he would bully them for a few days.
i have a 30 gallon and dint know you could fit that many fish and invertebrates. Im just starting to set up my tank so if you have any fish/invertabrate suggestions...
i definitely wouldn't add any more than I have in mine. I didn't add fish/inverts to my tank for a few weeks until the tank was establish. That way I didn't kill any fish from poor water quality. We don't have that blue linkia anymore and won't be getting another because they are extremely hard to keep. If you have any other questions...
for a 30g id say 6 fish max, i lyk percula clowns and royal grammas, i i had a 30g i would put in a few damsels, 2 percs, royal gramma, a chocolate chip star, some turbo snails, and some blue legs hermits
I think you still need about 50-60lbs of live rock even just for fish. I got about 50lbs. You should ask the pet store about your aquarium. When we first got ours, we asked millions of questions. They should be able to help out better than I can. Our nitrate is quite high but it hasn't hurt anything yet so idk. If you get a video up of your aquarium, let me know, I'd like to see. good luck.
yeah the nitrate was high me and my mom jsut did a test on it the other day i bought a baby true clown fish last night and a firefish and i think my tomato clown killed the lil clown he was dead this morning im goona have my gf load a video up and ill put it on youtube or ill find a way to send it to you u said u have about 50 pounds of rock y u have some much im 16 and im new with the whole saltr water aquarium thing but i love to do it love all the different styles of fish they have
OH NO! Clowns are damsels so usually cant have more than one unless introduced at the same time & if its the same type. You can try getting a bigger clown but wouldnt recommend it. Watch my other video of my clown trying to fight his reflection. They need ~2lbs/gal of live rock. Firefish Ive heard are pretty hardy so u shouldnt have problems w/ him, we've been trying to get one too. Take the dead clown back to the store & see if theyll give you credit for him. theres usually guarantees on them.
yeah the guy at the pet sote toled me he wouldnt give me a guarnte cuz he knew i had the tomato in there im thinking about getting rid of my tomata and get like 4 real clowns there cool and better then the tomato he really dont do much and yeha i idnt no i need that much rock for it i only bought like 6 pounds of it lol and the firefish is good he hides in the one ship i have in the tank and hes got amazing color im goona get 2 crabs this week my white sand is turning yellow for some reason
the petstore shouldve told u they dont get along then. sound like they were trying to make easy money by taking advantage of u. i'd find another pet store but that just me. firefish are real pretty. our pet store had one but we didnt get it so now we have to wait. we thought about getting rid of our clown but got attached to him lol so we adapted. our bicolor angel gets along real well w/ the clown. ur sand is just getting dirty. ours is like that too. its not a bad thing. crabs will help clean.
i wated 4 week to put fish in it i have a 30 gallon tank and 40 prounds of carribena sand i did all my test and the nitrate was a lil high i have about 8 pounds of live rock in the cuz i dont think im goona do a reef tank and the damsils are getting along fine well they were i hads 2 different breeds of them i got at the pet store im going to tomar for a shrimp the one iwht the red and white dots a blood one i think its called i dont no but if u have any idea let me me no
Snails clean off algae. Damsels dont usually get along and will fight til death sometimes (clowns are damsels too). Usually shouldnt add fish for 6-8wks so the aquarium can get established and bacteria can grow from the live rock/sand. Try checking the ph, ammonia, nitrite/nitrate. How big is your tank? How many lbs of live rock? Its really hard to tell bc it can be anything that would hurt the fish, but once youre set up, i personally think its easier than freshwater.
is it sump filtration? if not whats your filter
jean9910 3 weeks ago
@jean9910 This tank particularly didn't have a sump but the 90 gal in my other video does. I think it was a Fluval Canister filter but if you can get a sump, the filtration is much better.

can a coral beauty live with a couple of clown fish and a striped damsel
what else could i keep with them in a 30 gallon marine tank?

They should be fine. You can look up other reef safe fish on google. Also with such a small tank, you may want to stick to smaller/baby fish.

why is a protein skimmer so important can you have a SW w/o the protein skimmer

protein skimmer will help take out dissolved organics that will turn into nitrate which is dangerous to the fish and any corals.

If you get a video up of your aquarium, let me know, I'd like to see. good luck.

Take the dead clown back to the store & see if theyll give you credit for him. theres usually guarantees on them.

the petstore shouldve told u they dont get along then. sound like they were trying to make easy money by taking advantage of u. i'd find another pet store but that just me. firefish are real pretty. our pet store had one but we didnt get it so now we have to wait. we thought about getting rid of our clown but got attached to him lol so we adapted. our bicolor angel gets along real well w/ the clown. ur sand is just getting dirty. ours is like that too. its not a bad thing. crabs will help clean.
