  • The other alternative is that the exchange between dark bishop and knight is not done, which is worse: the queen gets attacked by both white knights and both white bishops, while black is stuck trying to castle.

I really like your attempts to innovate in chess, but I can't get this defence. Maybe you can explain more the technical concepts that can be applied in the position resulting from the Pterodactyl.

  • I've tried it a bit and I found it very difficult to yield.

First we fianchetto a black bishop, then we sacrifice it to maybe gain a pawn. At this point black can be attacked at both rook and queen as well as at any pawn that protects the king. At the end of any decent exchange, white has all of his minor pieces out, while black has only a slightly better pawn structure and all the minor pieces desperately pinned to the pawns that are left undefended by the lost bishop and wandering queen.

  • A book on this line has been recently published by FM Charles Storey. It is called The Sniper.

  • I like it. I'm going to give it a try. I have been playing since 1974 and still have no favorite Black Defense.
