I read that it's 1905. And the America First car chauvinists don't care how much their cars cost and pollute, they just want their cars to express nostalgia. I don't disrespect it, but I don't really agree with it.
I don't like Oldsmobiles- I'm a Honda man myself, but I love this song!!! The best use of it was in the Warner Bros. cartoons, when a reference to automobiles or driving was made.

no offense to anyone who looks up this song but its crappy and i only looked it up because this is my homework if not this would have never crossed my mind
"but ever since the 80's Japanese cars are just superior. " more reliable yeah, but the japs seldom build cars with soul, nostalga, or patriotism. Their cars are pretty much disposable. Unlike any other American car built in my lifetime, the oldsmobile holds a special place in my heart. The one I drove had a bad transmission and it wasn't very reliable at the end, but it would cruise all day, with lots of space and with class, style, and soul. Plus it its made in USA.
When I was a child, my father and I, actually my father and my sisters, and me, would sing all the time, esp in the car, and this was one song he would occasionally pull out of nowhere, while driving along the Kennedy expressway, in Chicago.
The first time I heard this song, BonziBuddy was singin' it and I did some research on this song and it was popular in 1905. My favorite car in the eighties was the Oldsmobile and I still love the Oldsmobile today. I know the words to this song by heart too.
Carl Stalling, who for many years was the musical director for the Warner Bros. cartoons, used this song for just about anything dealing with driving.
The song is rather old. Off a cylinder?

This is incredibly quaint - and sweet.

The cars in the movie clips are older than the song is!

@DeutscheRossiya Hey, Sister Angelica, if you`re going to respond to me, the least you could do is use your real name.

Also note the risque double-entendre line : "you can go as far like with me with me..." very forward for the time.

Toyotas and Hondas are better. The Olds had its day, but ever since the 80's Japanese cars are just superior.

I heard today that Oldsmobile is back! Not with GM though

They stopped making Oldsmobiles? Where have I been? Oh...driving my PT Cruiser...too bad. Oldsmobiles were classics!

Oldsmobile was phased out in 2004. The last car that came off the assembly line for Oldsmobile was a candy apple red Oldsmobile Alero.
gfiman 3 years ago
that very car is at the RE Olds Museum in Lansing, MI, signed by everyone on the assembly line. They have the very first Olds there too.
smbieri 3 years ago
I've seen that car at the R. E. Olds Transportation Museum as well, and at the 2005 Oldsmobile Nationals in Sea-Tac, WA.
It was built on April 28, 2004, and driven down the assembly line for a ceremony the next day.
I looked for my cousin's signature, as he was a Lansing Assembly employee, but could not find it.
The car is a black cherry color, not candy apple red.

If Chrysler had given the PT Cruiser to Plymouth, that division probably would still be around!

The Oldsmobile was legendary, without a doubt. I think GM should bring back Oldsmobile.

On the last day the Oldsmobile manufacturing plant operated, all of the plant's workers sung this song at the end of their shift, did they?

Bring back Oldsmobile GM!!!! It Never deserved to die.... Give Saturn the axe instead. Saturn doesnt near have the heritage of Oldsmobile.

I wish they'd bring back the studebaker. I miss that car.

There was one episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda) was driving along in a Jeep and he sang this song!

Just thought of this:
I share Alan Alda's birthday - and I own an Olds and a Jeep! ;-)

I loved singing this song when I was in the Girl Scouts.
Too bad the Oldsmobile's extinct - this song shouldn't disappear with it.

What??? The Girl Scouts sung that???

This is really historic. The Date in the video shows 1904. The Theme of the Song is used in some older cartoons
