He met saddam twice, both times to try and persuade saddam to allow hans blix and the other UN weapon inspectors into Iraq so that a war could be averted. Dunno what he did when he met Uday though.
Galloway does not regret that quote. He DENIES the quote. There was a period where he tried to alter the word "Sir" to "So" (apparently that single word changes the meaning and the sentiment) but it convinced no-one, so now it is all denied.
So much for the unsupported word of that creature.
But listen to what George is ctually saying to Saddam: 'Fraternal Greetings'....why say that to a bloody despot like him? Why was he also mad about them showing that video of Saddam being hung in 2006?
Galloway on Saddam meeting:"As a matter of fact, I have met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him. The difference is Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and to give him maps the better to target those guns. I met him to try and bring about an end to sanctions, suffering and war, and on the second of the two occasions, I met him to try and persuade him to let Dr Hans Blix and the United Nations weapons inspectors back into the country..."
its funny that people have a go at galloway for meting saddam, what about jesse jackson shaking his hand, muhamaad ali kissing him on the cheek, tony benn, un secretary general, and countless others who met him for peaceful reasons as did george. Lets not forget don rumsfeld sook his hand and sold him weapons!
That's simply not true. He's on the record as having opposed Saddam from the very beginning, and has never expressed verbally or in writing anywhere that he felt a friendship with him. This myth is purely based around the unfortunate "Sir, I salute..." quote, which George regrets saying and has said he regrets saying over and over.
Donald Rumsfeld met with Saddam Hussein twice. First to sell him weapons, the second time to sell him targeting technology to better aim those weapons.
Why do they still bring this up? It's so obviously not true. Donald Rumsfeld hung out with Saddam quite a bit more than George Galloway. And Rummy sold him ghastly weapons. George Galloway tried to prevent war. But who gets tarred and feathered?
galloway is a liar.
he said "Sir" and "yourself" and said he was happy that people were naming their children saddam.
so he was not talking to the people.
in one of his speeches he even glorified saddam hussein and said he will live on in histody long after the "dogs" bush and blair.
also look up his meeting with saddam's psycopath son Uday and see how he talked with him. he even said "we're with you till the end"

No, no, when he said "your excellency" to Uday he meant the Iraqi people.
lol :P

yeah and when he said Fidel Castro is the greatest man he ever met, he meant the Cuban people.
and when he kissed the ass of Bashar Assad he meant the syrian people.
he even called Syria "a democracy"

Maybe George does not know what "salute", "courage", "strength" and "indefatigability" mean.
I thought they were glowing words of praise, but then perhaps it was a condemnation, Galloway-style?
Maybe I got that wrong?
I think that George knew if he said anything else in the same room as Saddam, he'd get concrete overshoes and a quick trip to the Euphrates.
Disguised condemnation it was then, or so it seems.

I can't believe this uninformed caller has the vincible retardedness to confront Galloway with a bucket full of Fox news ignorance
