This is definitely not the best live version of this song. Personally, the live version of them singing most recently is the best. Elaine shouts a bit here and, as stated, goes off key once or twice, but Barbara wasn't at her best either. For someone who stated she sings the song in B Flat, it didn't sound that way. Still, they're both great performers and this is better than any rendition by anyone else.
Wow, they are both great. Far better than Whitney or Barbara Streisand's versions of this song. I love Susan too but her version of this wasn't so great. These two have it down to perfection... and this song is killer. I think Elaine and Dickinson make the most of the melody
I think both Elaine and Babara are great singers. No one is better than another in general, but just in this song Babara seems to be better. It's just my opinion
The melody first appeared with ABBA in 1977, during their Australian tour, and was developed further in 1978 then shelved until Chess. By that point, ABBA's chart fortunes had ailed and I've always wondered if this song would have made Number One if performed by the group. Paige and Dickson are fantastic but I'll always beieve this song was written with Faltskog and Lyngstad in mind.
My Obsrvation: Elaine Page 'shouts' twice when she sings the word 'eternity' her voice coarsens, spreads and she slides off the note. Otherwise it's brilliant and a refined rendition from both of these lovely ladies.
I am allowed to make a comment about the artistry and performance of the quality of the music. I never get involved personal remarks about artists. This section if for comments. This is mine.
Don't be pathetic and crass dear. Critisism is not 'hate' as you put it, but interested and sometimes informed criticism. Elaine Page is a STUNNING performer..multi-talented..a wonderful actress, a West End and Broadway star..a successful recording artist..ALW's muse.
She shouted at times during this recording in a rather coarse manner..doesn't mean anyone 'hates' he (your intelligent perceptive word)..go ask her..she'd agree.

What do you mean Crass and pathetic???? My words were not crass and I was not being pathetic, ...you arrogant, condescending, feeble-minded idiot!..You are the pathetic loser!
As for Elaine agreeing with you .. as you put it "insecure....when duetting with the flawless and refined alto of Ms. Dickson"...I don't think she would agree.
So before you decide to reply to people's comments, do your research and think about what you decide to write..
Yeah, I agree this would have been superb but Page shouts badly two or three times. Insecure I guess when duetting with the flawless and refined alto of Ms Dickson
@CandyHaleLinton Impossible.... the harmony and message of the song will just be ruined if thats the case if anyone of them is insecure. The song itself is an expression feelings of a wife and mistress and emotions is part of the rendition
@northernstar2000@northernstar2000 It's not 'Impossible' Elaine Paige is a fine performer, but in this, the best live rendition of 'I know him so well', her tone coarsens and she slips off key twice, both times when she sings the word 'security'. It's not musically refined or tasteful or necessary, especially when singing a fine duet with a very fine musician. Have a listen again before telling me my opinions are 'Impossible'. Thank you very much.
@CandyHaleLinton The best thing you can do is think as if you are there during the time they are rendering the song. Then you will understand the message of the song (its all about their bittersweet relationship since they are engaged with one man - this explain their emotions in every performance they do. Didn't you wonder why this recording remains in the Guinness Book of Records as the biggest selling UK Chart single ever by a female duo even until now? visit
Elaine does indeed shout... the first chorus in particular! Barbara puts in the better performance

Maravilhoso dueto!

I adore Elaine but she did overdo it on the "security" line, every time! Other than that both superb!

Beautiful LIVE performance. "I Know Him So Well" is a magnificent song with a good arrangement. Barbara's and Elaine's voices sound amazing.

The swedish (original version) is much better.
Search for "Jag vet vad han vill" with Helen Sjöholm.

The original version is in fact this version. The one with Helen was translated from English to Swedish.

the singing is stunning (of course...) but the backing is horrible!!
the original is so so so much nicer - this was too twisted to sound good with those amazing voices

Agree, the orchestration is very distracting.

She doesn't say "eternity" she says "more security"

I have 4 points to make and then will be quiet.
They song is beautiful and sung the way it was written.
They have different voices and it is silly to try to compare.
"She"shouts" at the same point, get the sheet music
They are both excellent, a great song and let's just enjoy it. They must have dome something right, as it was a no 1 hit.
