Yes, my son is tall for this horse and even taller now. We have a taller horse, but everyone likes riding this one best. We'll never sell this fabulous horse. We no longer show, but just do backyard riding, so it doesn't really matter.
Thanks! I think his seat is decent for his first canter. He's cantered a lot since then and could still improve. I must say, though, that this precious, wonderful mustang of ours does have smooth gaits, so my son may not have done as well starting on another horse.
@rokgirl86 Two Point is the jumping position, when the rider shifts his weight entirely out of the saddle and balances on the stirrups, with his knees as the other point to stabilize the position
your doing good being a beginner. I learned to sit my canter when i was first learning to, but i would suggest maybe trying 2 point or even 3 point and trying to slow him down a little(i understand if u dont want to). but overall good job!
Well, he does have a fast canter. We are working on getting it slower and more controlled. I've ridden his gallop. It is WAY faster than this. This horse can really move.
@horseprofessor sorry i said that looked like a gallop it was indeed a fast canter but then i wasnt very expierenced and barely new what i was talking about i knew a canter between a gallop just not very well so sorry for my trouble
This mustang does have the ability to move fast--in fact, the fastest gallop I've ever ridden. At first his trot was also very fast and not well controlled. Now I can get 6 speeds of trot from him, ranging from very slow to a nice rising trot. We're working on getting him to relax and to slow down his canter as well. If excited, he at times will change direction (of his own accord) and do flying changes easily under saddle. With some work, he'll turn out to be awesome.
Actually, I (the boy's mother) feel the opposite. When I'm riding the canter, it seems fast, but videos makes it look slow. My son does need to learn to "polish the saddle." He has a great instructor though. That's interesting that you are doing the 2-point canter first. When I learned to ride (40 years ago), I learned to sit the canter first, as are my sons.
thats strange are you riding western ? in an english saddle i learnt to sit first found it much easier to do once id got my balance and could sit to the canter properly
Yes, thanks. He's getting the hang of it. This mustang was a very nervous creature, who would bolt at the drop of a hat. After lots of love and some Parelli training techniques, he's settling down quite nicely. In fact, we all prefer riding him rather than our larger (15.2) horse, who has a very vertical trot, that you see at the end of the video. My 2 sons take lessons, alternating turns on both horses
he did awesome! when i had my first canter i almost got slung off. he did wayyy better than alot of people!

@rokgirl86 Two point is a jumping position. It is where and Jumper stands in his stirrups. Not too high or not too low they lean slighty forward.

@horselover99100 that was not a gallop, in order to gallop you have to have a large area

Yeah, I find it strange that a lot of people learn 2 point canter first, because if they fall out of two point, what'd they do?
You're son looked great for a beginner but, your horse is very fast for someone who is just learning!

could some1 explain two point to me?
i ride and do canter, and have heard of it, but am unsure of the meaning exactly lol

Canter looks so fast, but it's so slow when you're the rider!
Try to sit more in your saddle, but you're probably doing better than I am; I am not up to sitting canter yet, I am doing two-point canter first. XD
