I wish I knew where you are Kuulei. You seem to have crowded my mind indeed. Will I see you once more, because you seem to have colored my mind, only sad in a natural way and I enjoy sometimes feeling this way.
Love both versions . . . both the Weller-sung version on "Introducing," and this version which was on "Café Bleu/My Ever-Changing Moods" . . . however, I think this one works better.
I'm sitting on a beach in Cornwall, it's November 1984, the wind is whipping round me, I am huddled up to keep warm but my Walkman is playing this song over and over and over again and I am lost in the music. I am always transported back there everythime I hear this.
ah, the soundtrack to my teenage longing for unattainable, beautiful women who were at the time swanning around France being sophisticated and bilingual...
as USA is disappointed(which is a ridiculous comment) it should get out all right now of the peace plan & give a chance to the EU...than is gonne be a real peace believe me !!!
This was the theme song to my first love affair - so many years ago. I know she must think of me, too, when she hears this. We were so young, but when we listened to music like this, we felt mature and love was eternal.
Kudos to Paul for choosing Tracey to sing this version.. I love the brush on the drum to give the effect of constant falling rain on a lazy, grey, Paris afternoon.
If only you had half the voice of God that she has. And to make a blanket statement about the British is just plain stupid (I am a Yank, by the way). So Sade and Sting cannot sing jazz? Besides, this was not meant to be jazz a-la Ella Fitzgerald. When you come close to the success and talent of this woman, you can talk.
It's not jazz, as such. She's guest singing on a Style Council Album which is Mod/Soul. You may love Tracey if you check her out with her duo 'Every thing but the Girl'. Their eclectic but always v.good.

At first I thought I was on stuck on an elevator in a building in 1980.
Paul Weller, the Jam and Style Council are good musicians. This woman can't sing all that well, and the arrangement sounds like it was done by somebody who needs a suppository to take a dump. I love jazz but this doesn't even come close to being decent jazz.
you mean 1986? cafe bleu reminds me of the desperate times after the School Strike (in uk) of April 1985: producing leaflets on a manual printer listening to this, trying to agitate the industrial workers to at least defend themselves against Thatcher govt running riot.....
I really liked both versions (Paul's & Tracy's) of this song equally but now that I got a look at the face behind the voice...well...we have a winner!

Whoa fuck i've been a EBTG fan since the eighties and never realised it was Tracey Thorn on this cafe bleu version, Paul Weller does the vocals on The Collection album version. Thanks for educating me lol.
Cool taste in music btw, PJ Harvey and The Smiths ☺
GOD I wish there was more music out there like this! Tracey Thorn is without a doubt the most unique female vocalist I have ever heard. To HELL with Hanna Montana!
This song creeps me out. I made a music video to it and combined footage from the concentration camps and declining days of the war. I actually had the piano solo synched up to bombing. The video was awesome, and because of it, now I have difficulties listening to this song. The idea was juxtaposing such vile images over a pretty song. I still love the song, but.....Damn!
This is one of my favourite songs, I know this song (this version) since the 80s; if I would go to the desert and choose 10 songs, this would be one of them; I never saw Tracey singing this song, ... does it exists?
As Leonardo or Velazquez or Mozart it requieres a lot ot talent and art to create such a beautiful song: the rithm, the piano playing, Tracy´s voice as a caress, everything´s is in the right place. Actually Im thinking ´bout a promenade in Paris with the falling leaves, the music of an accordion playing away, lovers gazing each other finding a new world in each one´s eyes, The same in Hide Park or another places can apply.
Excellent. "I am only sad in a natural way". What an elegant way of espressing it. "The gift you gave is desire". Just great. Way to go Tracey. One of my best song ever. Takes me back in time and forward with hope everytime I listen to this jewel. Grazie
Who doesn´t remember a missing lover hearing: "I wish I knew where you are..."??

Thousand ok thanks Paul, Mike and Tracy for creating this nostalgic place to join all of us
Actually when I go the beach I try to look backwards in the past but it seems everything´s has changed. Playing this song in my ipod, feeling the breeze in my skin and a quite nostalgia invades me...Could such a beutiful song ever die??

A rainy autumn afternoon in Paris...staring out the window...not a lot to do today.
It's busy out there but in the musty apartment where my flatmates and I live it's quiet. I finally have the place to myself for a couple of hours.
I make a fresh pot of Lavazza, light another cig and turn on bad, dubbed television.
I fan through today's Herald Tribune, bought this morning along with 20 Marlboro and a litre of UHT milk.
My student days of Paris back in the 80s. Nothing like it...
