And to those who whine about the cropping: If you actually WATCHED this vid you would see that the pup doesn't mind one single bit. None of the pups we used to have did, for that matter. Also, cropping means less ear related problems. And IMHO they look even so much better when cropped ear & tail.

@yourmumcantcook In southern Alabama, my dobe's ear crop was $309 -- that includes pre-surgery blood testing, anesthesia, IV fluids, the crop and stitches, an overnight stay at the vet, post-op pain meds, stitch removal, and 3 follow-up postings. Each additional posting (if needed) is $10 per wrap. The longer the ears, the longer you have to post. I paid $500 for my AKC Dobe and $309 for her ear crop.

I am 37 and have had at least a pair of kimbertal dobermans my entire life!! To answer all questions... All dogs should be dobermans!!!! Great on a leash... Good with kids... And for you people that think croping is cruel... That particular breeder doesn't give you an option!!! All ears get done... Even if you are paying $3000.00 not an option to have natural ears

Her ears were not JUST cropped; they are being taped. ears MUST be cropped between 7 to 12 weeks of age or their chances of standing decline dramatically. She had her ears already cropped by her breeder at 7 weeks old. I paid $1,500 for her; I'm sure her cropping & docking was already including in the price. REPUTABLE breeders crop their dogs ears! If you find a breeder who doesn't have any information for you on cropping, DO NOT buy from them!

My Doberman had her ears cropped and she has never forgotten the trauma, as evidenced by her habit of daily snuggling with everyone in the family, friendliness with people and other dogs, and her poor self esteem from everyone commenting on how beautiful she is. The anti-croppers should mind their own business, since they have no experience with the procedure.

@FastestGrassAlive Yeah, I remember the trauma and the shock of the cropping and docking in my dog too. I remember her being so playful and happy after we picked her up from the vet. All day long I see her how she misses her tail by wagging it so fast everytime she sees me or sees a friend.

These animals are hours old when their tails are docked. No man on this earth remembers circumcision but they'll cry about it ad nauseum. Dobes originally had their ears and tails docked/cropped to prevent some slobbering idiot, like you, from grabbing hold of either of those appendages thus preventing the dog from doing its job...which is protection primarily. If you are a man, get over the fact your wee schmeckel got snipped, if your a woman quit wishing you had one.

@hardeepiscool It's not required. Sometimes, people bridge them too close together & the ears start to cross at the tips. I started bridging them during the first stages of her ear taping but it was a personal preference to not do it anymore. Her ears turned out fine.

@aboudqadi usually they crop their ears when the pup is between the six and nine weeks. it takes 1 to 2 weeks to heal. after removing the stitches, and when the ears are completely healed, you can start with putting the ears up. ( as you can see in this video..) Cropping ears is a long proces which need to be done in the right way otherwise the dog can experience a lot of pain! Be sure that you get enough information from different breeders.

@aboudqadi also, make sure the cropping is done by a LICENSED VET! the pup needs to be "drugged" (im not sure if this is the right way to say it, i mean the vet drugs the dog so it will be asleep during the cropping) and its very important that youll do a lot of research! Cropping will have no psycological effects on the dog IF it is done the RIGHT way! :) i hope this information helped you a lil. :)

@spanketyspankety actually when you crop the ears it alows for the moisture in the ear to evaporate easier which results in less ear infections. Also they use a lazer now and they heal with in 3-6 days. When you see the tap the ears have healed and the tape is to promote the ears to stand up. the tape also keeps the pups from scratching the newly healed ears and reopening them. If you think about it, it is like having your child's ears pierced. It take a few days to heal but then its good.
