At the Chicago gay games, he put this little musical kata together just for fun. But in the fighting category later that day, he really showed his talents. Even in his late 30's, he was amazing to watch kick butt in the ring. I can only imagine what he was like 15-20 years earlier.
I know this guy. He's actually in his late 30's already. In his younger days he was actually on the U.S. National TaeKwonDo Champion in the Fly-Weight division, Collegiate National Champion, and on the U.S. National team vying for a spot on the Olympic team. During competition he came out as openly gay to let people know that everyone is the same regardless of sexual preference, and to urge people to let go of the stereotypical image of a "gay" person. He's one of the coolest guys I ever met
Meh, as far as musical forms go these are pretty subpar. I refer the musical forms at normal Martial Arts competitions. They're more like this:

Musical Forms are NOT unique to the gay games, they just took something that's usually good and made it... well... gay. The Eagle Claw one wasn't bad, but it just wasn't sharp. These are subpar Martial Artists.
Thanks for that link--VERY IMPRESSIVE! I had no idea musical forms are a norm at competitions! Maybe it's just not a norm at the TKD competitions I've competed in (eons ago!) and have recently watched. I enjoyed watching the musical forms as they are different (for me) and very entertaining. Thanks again, and I'll correct my video descriptions!
No special recognition for sexual orientation. The Gay Games is really all about inclusion and the spirit of competition and sport to participate and be proud of who you are. They don't even require you to disclose your sexual orientation. The name is a bit misleading in my opinion because anyone can participate regardless of orientation, but I guess it's a way of saying, if you are gay (or not) you are welcome here. Overused, yes. Good all the same in my opinion.
