A Major outranks a Lieutenant. Yet, a Lieutenant General outranks a Major General.
A Major General with a Major headache makes a doctor's appointment with his Private Physician but a Private who needs an annual physical will have his General health evaluated by a Doctor who is a General Practitioner.
@CounterCultureLives Yeah dude. I think, Lieutenant Gen is in lieu of the 4 star general. A major general came from Sgt. Major General. To eliminate the confusion from Sgt. Major, Sgt was removed from general. How about, general electric or general dentist? This is really confusing.
