Yeah, it is advanced, and why someone would go around hacking the long way, I don't know. Anyway, hacking shouldn't happen full stop. What I was getting at was, it's like, that method of hacking, they use malicious code which removes the need for any password to be entered, thus meaning that they can login just using the username.

Don't worry though, a complex method such as that is hard to achieve, and would take ages and ages to code it right.

Ah... BUT... If the processor didn't fry (let us pray), the heatsink is replaceable, along with a new coating of a good grade of *silver* based thermal paste. Material cost: $20-$30.

IF the processor is toast, it can still be popped out and replaced. Depending on what it is (was), it could run from $30 to $100 max. And max is only if it's a recent hot dual core model.

Well i have a core 2 duo, I assume my heat sink isn't broken, it's just the little things that keep it attached to the motherboard... i'm thinking some sort of hacked together thing due to my not wanting to buy a new one, but I think i will. I know my processor isn't shot... yet.

A core 2 duo is worth salvaging. Those two clips keep the heat sink solidly against the processor, where it HAS to be. If one comes loose, then *poof* overheating. If they do, it's likely that they weren't firmly snapped in to begin with. A proper reinstall (with new paste), assuring that they solidly snap in place, might fix it.
