Which one of these 2 synths ( Alesis Micron vs Korg Prophecy) can make the weirdest, most outrageous and incredibly beautiful sounds????...just asking....
@helmet22fc I'm a noob too, ...waiting on UPS to deliver my first synthesizer today, an (Akai Miniak) I hear there's a bunch of free software editors for the Micron which also work for the Miniak since they're both pretty much the same model and sound engine. Do you use an editor for yours? There's plenty of sites and user groups online that answered alot my questions before I even bought one. I'm glad I went with the Miniak instead of the MicroKorg XL, good luck to you. Peace.
@Username11available2 definitely!!! best sounding VA synth I've ever put my hands on. programming can be tedious, but it's a fantastic machine with huge synthesis power.
the begining of it reminded me of Radiohead's everything in it's right place. it made me want to sing "Everything~ in it's right Place~", very nice pad sound.
this is so fucking sick. i am getting one soon and can't wait to get my hands on it. the beginning is obviously radiohead and right after that the patch sounds like it could be used to play the theme from "a clockwork orange".
Haha, that was the first thing that popped into my head about 2 seconds into the video, totally sounds like Radiohead. I just bought this for my girlfriend's birthday, I'll just show her this right before I reveal it and she'll shit! Thanks for the great ideay Gtechture.
How deep can you get into FM programming on the Micron? I am thinking of getting a Nord Modular G2 partly because of its excellent FM support. Can the Micron load dx7 patches?
You cannot get very deep into the FM with the Micron. It can there are only three oscillators and a limited amount of algorithms. The G2 is good but it is a waste to buy it just for the FM. The Yamaha TX7 can be bought used for 60-80 dollars. The Alesis fusion has an awesome FM engine. 6 operators with waveform select and you can create algorithms freely. Yamaha TY77 is also an excellent choice for FM. The micron cannot load DX7 patches as it is structured like a subtractive analog synth.
They are both very good synthesizers. They are not fit for comparison because the Micron is vastly more advanced than the Micro Korg. The fact that they are the in the same price range means little. If you are not familiar with programing and the structure of synthesizers the Micron will not be easy to program although it will still sound great!
actually in australia there is a 200$ price difference. apparently you can't go wrong with either anyway. i'm not exactly noob to synth. i've been mucking around with software VST's for a while and i know how to use everything, but just one question ? does the micron have a gated arp?
so where does one begin to learn about sound synthesis? It's something I'm curious to learn but don't know where to start, I know some acoustic theory but that's it.
Just fooling around, trial and error. The basics are pretty easy to get to grips with although a synth which has control sliders and nobs would be much better to learn on than something that requires you to delve in to menus to alter parameters
Every synthesizer comes from the manufacturer with amazing books written by the people who designed and developed them them that explain, with utmost rigor, how to operate the synthesizers. Unfortunately they are usually lost or thrown out. I think they are called Manuals.
I have, for instance downloaded the manuals of the Akai Miniak (wich is practicaly a Micron) and Waldorf Blofend and they explain some (the Waldorf being more extense) synthesis principles and steps, very interesting. Also you can check Substractive synthesis (wich is more or less what all the analog synths are based on), or FM synthesis (very interesting method if you like, say, Depeche Mode).
I just now programmed a set where i have drums, synth, etc and my guitar is distorted, delayed, and M2 is set up like a high resonance wah wah pedal -i've got it so that when you slide up m2 the synths low pass requency goes up and the guitars band pass goes own at the same time.. i'm fairly proud of it, shame my expr pedal doesnt work and i cant play two instruments at once
Does anyone know how to download programs (as in sounds for the Micron) off the internet, then upload them to the Micron via usb/midi? That would be really useful thanks :)
Love this song! You also have to listen to the great Electro Remixes by "Infamous Upstarts - INF001", bought that record a couple of months ago - great!
damn you man, i keep coming back to watch these beautiful patches and its making me need to get a micron. the problem is, i dont need one, as ive got a roland v-synth. but try telling my brain that! beautiful tiny synth + gtechture =
i bought one of these, loved it, until it almost cought on fire,i returned it, but no more in stock, no more micron, maybe again someday. wasn't real impressed with patches until used setup mode, but preset transitions are not smooth in setup mode, which would be great for live performance. very nice synth tho. especially for the money.
i remember one of the reasons i decided to get the micron was the way i figured you could make radiohead sounds with it... i had a decent All I Need cover going and then realized i couldn't do the necessary syncopation lol.. BTW Gtechture is the best micron player on youtube
Thanks for all of the comments! Its really hard to get a band in sync with a synths arps and lfo's. This guy i knew pulled it off by giving his drummer a pair of headphones connected to the synth so he could sync the drumming with the arppegio.

I've used the Modular G2 for FM, also in combination with other types of synthesis, giving it much more uportunities.
The G2 Rack Engine is very affordable.

Yeah you can, go on edit patch then scroll to the modulations section (near the end), set M1Slider or M2Slider etc to one of the synth.
Hope that helps
