I have to correct MRN on knowing this. We dont know when a bunch of cells "become" life because it doesnt. Becomming something is just a matter of definition, and there are no guidelines as to when something is something and when it is something else. Its compleatly a matter of human definition of it.
communism sounds nice in theory, just like anarcho capitalism can sound nice in theory. The biggest problem is the removal of the state. Its assumed that everyone will agree with society moving one way, which is very unlikely. In fact its so unlikely that most nations have elections every 4 years.
IIRC George Orwell was a member of the Fabian Society which was pre-cursor to the rise of Social Democratic Parties such as the Labour Party which sort to round out the sharp corners of capitalism through progressive tax policies, certain public goods (power generation, health, education etc.) coming under the purview of the state itself. As for George Orwell being anti-communist, his criticisms were anti-totalitarianism rather than anti-communist.
Can you ask for an interview with MrEnergyCzar? I only heard of him because of a video that you Favorited by him. Every time I listen to one of his videos he scares the fuck out of me in a way that no horror movie ever could, using reality, and I love when someone does that. That is my recommendation.
No offense but he's misrepresenting Stalin's position towards Hitler & Germany. Stalin thought they had a great deal in common philosophically. Eventually he realized Hitler's hatred of communism could not be overcome.
@TheTruePooka He also completely ingnored "Social Fascism" & siding with the Nazis prior to them comming to power, then later during the Spanish Civil War in the 30s, the "Popular Front" dogma & turning on the Anarchists.
I liken MRN in some ways to the various denialists like truthers, anti vaxxers etc. Believing counter culture rubbish becuase he is aware of being lied to by the establishment. He even thinks RT is a reliable news service.
@kommissarw Well Hitler's national socialism tends to be poorly represented - which I'm no to surprised. He does admit he's not that knowledgeable on th history of that period. And most people tend to get it wrong.
It had elements of socialism but it was also fascism. But that doesn't ,mean socialism always equals fascism.
@TheTruePooka I don't think Stalin *ever* accepted that Hitler would turn on him until the evidence was overwhelming that yes, German forces were pouring over the border into Soviet territory. He didn't even believe the first reports from the field that Russia was under attack; he believed it was all a trick set up by Churchill.
@JonPaulPrime Yah. When the Nazis first invaded Russia, the Russian citizens greeted them like comrades - until they tortured, beat & imprisoned them. That sort of pissed them of. :D
Yeah, He kinda messed up on the bit about Marx being a factory manager.

@gulbirk I differ from MRN here; the state must exist and isn't going anywhere.

@JonPaulPrime Oh, for some reason I thought you were an anarchist too.

Communism is a nice idea but not possible. The human animal will always scheme and seek advantage, its a genetic legacy we are unable to eradicate.

I don't care much for MRN usually, but this was a good, open, respectable interview

Marx wasn't the factory manager. Wasn't that Engels?
