Alex is a good friend. He is still playing regularly for local events. Ali Bain came to his 80th last year. His whistle playing and repartee is still excellent.
Does anyone know what whistle Mr. Green is playing in his recording - D? and is this an Alba whistle? Also, is there any sheet music available? How does one learn this style of playing?
i well remember reciting the poem in primary school near Brechin it still remains one of my favourite pieces of Scottish verse . jJust like to add great playing, thourghly enjoyed it
Good on you Uistmann, maith thu, I didnae understand a word asi was sweeping the stoor aff the flure. No problem I have the third degree in Ulster-Scots, ye boy ye.
Hi Paola, Thanks for your note. The poem is in Scots and not very easy for English speakers to full understand ( a bit like my self and Irish) The wee cowherd made a whistle from a rowan twig and entertained people all summer long until winter came and he had to back to school and the teacher burnt his whistle. A happy poem with a very sad end.

Hi Lorraine , thanks for your note. He wouldn't be allowed to do that nowadays - but again there are very few young folk who could make a whistle!
