Dude, pacman... on this resolution? Long way to go.
But while watching discovery science (i gues) i saw this theory that in the future we can probably build up 3D shapes uit of a ton of small objects. Made me think, what if we had an epic fluid capable of that... AND HERE IT IS!
If you could learn to fully controll this, you could have some epic aquarium with Ferro Fish! I aint saying it's do-able, but im quite sure it will be some day.
@iRicecrispy it should be do-able.. watch "ferrofluid in water". my guess is that you make a mechanic fish, with a magnetic field. dip it in ferrofluid and throw it in a aquarium.
So In Theory Could You Make a portable circuit board that could make the fluid take shape....lets say like a dog and programming to make it act as so??
This would make a great "fountain" type thing in a public place. . .like a mall lobby. A huge fixed array, with the ferrofluid sealed under a layer of glass. Shows and ads and stuff could run on it. . .
bought some of this fluid from unitednucleardotcom, they sell it in vials from 4ml($3.00us)to 175ml($65.00us), as well as magnets of various sizes. Some of them are HUGE and come with strong warnings not to even walk through a room with a T.V. or monitor while carrying one of these, or it will suck the picture right off!!! If you are holding one with your credit card in your wallet, it will whipe it clean from 20 feet away!!
BEWARE!! This stuff is VERY messy, it is just like motor oil when it is not next to a magnet and will stain everything! When it is stuck to a magnet, it feels like a firm yet squishy jell. I guess they mixed iron powder with petroleum oil to make this stuff.
thats cool, the boards look really well constructed too.
just an ignorant question though, what happens if you put a steel ball on top instead of the ferrofluid? does it get dragged around in the snake pattern?
Excellent idea and ingenious design. Definitely has a lot of potential for further development. To those who are criticising it, look beyond the game. It was chosen to demonstrate the potential of ferromagnetic nanoparticles and scalable circuit design. The 'oil' is essentially an aqueous solution of copper sulphate or manganese chloride - with the ferromagnetic nanoparticles (magnetite, hematite or iron-containing particles) suspended within it...
Fuck! I wish I had thought of this! :)

cool. I was looking to buy it , but it seems so expensive, isnt it just small iron fillings in a liquid?
i need like a liter, i`m not gonna spend like 400 bucks on it!
how much is that thing in the video? maybe its cheaper to take it out of that :)

actually, it's water with soap and nano magnetic particles. when a magnet activates, all particles near it clump together around the magnet.
