  • You can't really blame JDB for his musical mistakes. The band were still shaken by Richeys disappearance and trying to prove to their fanbase (the very few who were at this gig) and everyone else that they were still a unit, they were playing to Oasis fans who didn't really give two-shits about the Manics and would chant "Where the fuck is Richey?" and they were adapting to a new "mainstream" sound as opposed to their darker, previous album.

  • this is a very low energy performance compared to how james usually gives it up

  • Hahahaa, what's he singing at 2:03 - 2:11 ? Poor, James. He forgot his lines!

  • Will this song ever get boring? To all who are saying this is for an Oasis gig; you're wrong, it was the Hillsborough Justice gig in 97 where these, The Beautiful South, Lightning Seeds, Stereophonics, Dodgy, Space and Smaller performed...at the time of this gig; Oasis were doing promo work for Be Here Now.

  • i bet they just wanted to tell the the crowd to get fucked

  • @manutd798 What are you on about? The Manics love Liverpool, they even wrote a song attacking the South Yorkshire police for their role at Hillsborough.

  • The crowd really are'nt going for it are they? Wrong crowd for this type of music or at this time of day. JDB looks genuinely overawed. Must be hard to sell a song about the emptiness of consumer culture and modern living to a crowd expecting cigarettes and alcohol. Good try though.

  • @caraticus12 This was their first song for the gig, as for the crowd, have a look at their reaction to Australia, superb

  • that main road?

  • @Staff777 it's Anfield - this was the Hillsbrough Justice Concert from 1996

  • A GREAT TUNE END OFF IF YOU DO NOT AGREE YOUR A CXXT NO NEED FOR SWEARING PEACE TO ALL MANKIND

  • imagine playing for a crowd that huge! blimey...

  • @daziel6

    Woodstock?

  • Thanks a million for posting this. I've been searching for years for it. Such a great gig.

  • wonderful world of -- what?

  • @greendaycranberryfan purchase power

  • i remember seeing this on tv, good performance! Ive always wanted to see footage of there first comeback gig - I think it may have been Sound City in Nottingham in 96/97

  • @telecaster228401 no mate they did their first gig as a 3 piece supporting The Stone Roses @ wembley in december 95 hey were great but nervous (understandable)

  • i love every single of ur song ..

  • Does anyone know where you can get a hold of this concert please :) ?

  • Who is Stadium?

  • Anfield

  • Amazing song, I tried this on Piano if anyone has time to check it out. Thanks.

  • they'd have a job being there for wonderwall.... oasis didn't play the justice gig!!

the crowd was made of two thirds families who went because it was 'the right thing to do', and they rest were teenagers and 20-odd year olds who saw it for what it was - a day to get drunk and watch quite a few bands do some pretty good sets in all fairness.

throw in Frank Sidebottom as the mid-act entertainment, and you've got an amazing day - one i'll not forget in a hurry!!

  • This is a great performance if you ignore all the oasis groupies who are pathetic and could not spot a classic like this if it hit them in the face and dont get me wrong oasis have good tunes just the crowd isckealry here for wonderwall the absolute bunch of cunts

  • @nickftm ugh...that description gives me the willies. i wished you'd stopped at "oasis groupies." This song is still a religious experience after 20 yrs.

  • the reason the crowd are bollocks is because they're complicit in this motorcycle emptiness...they are the main culprits fuck sake?

  • LOL James totally forgot the lyrics at 1:56 he covered it well though

  • ive noticed he does that often, he makes shit up too, but hes a legend and it shows he knows how to improvise which any good musician should do :P

  • i think its a good version, awesome, bradders looks real young

  • i sort of meant all together, but i get wat ur sayin, btw- GT was only JDB musically. Seans drums were edited in, not actually recorded.

  • everyones commenting sayin the atmospheres not great well its a charity gig so the people dont got specifically to see the manic street preachers, they mightent even like then so what do you expect?? lol

  • even if they dont like the manics, they have to admire the great vocal and musical ability of all involved in the manics!

  • anyone got this in good qaulity

  • They are so totally bored!

  • i think they look sad it just makes me sad watching it :(..

  • UHHH James plays a solo at the end

  • Atmosphere looks a bit flat, still a great song though.

  • wasn't it the hillsborough benefit gig?

  • Yep, thats right. :)

  • no solo crap
